Apple Inc. said Monday that Eric Schmidt, Google Inc.'s chief executive, is resigning from the Apple's board and cited the growing overlap of the two companies' businesses.

…and in related news, AT&T just threw Apple under the bus when they were questioned about the Google Voice iPhone-app drama.

Yup, pass the popcorn here - this is going to get entertaining. I hope Apple and Google will be able to work together on projects in the future, though; I hope AT&T exclusivity goes away soon.

Not a second too soon.
CEOs should not be allowed to moonlight in other companies, specially if there's a hint that they could be competitors.
Don't believe me. Believe the movement of GOOG and AAPL in the rest of the week, as investors learn about this.
I want a level market around Apple products. No favoritism. No backscratching.
Besides Google hasn't helped Apple that much. We won't miss them.

It never surprises me how low phone companies can go.

It's pretty obvious now that Schmidt resigned because the feds have been making anti-trust interlocking directorate noises.

The FCC writes a letter about Google Voice on the iPhone, and this happens. Odd.

Related, but the reason given, growing overlap, is correct. I would not want the competition sitting on my board either.

Given the fact that Google is making Android and the iPhone is becoming a bigger part of Apple's business, plus the fact that Chrome OS is announced now, it would be pretty bad if he could only stay in the room during discussion on iTunes, iLife, Hardware and the Apple Stores. What I seriously wonder though is why when Android started being developed he wasn't asked to leave? In my opinion Chrome is not nearly as big of a deal as Android.
