Hi everyone,

I have a the last gen PowerMac, right before the switch (Nov. 2005 DC 2.0GHz). Three years later and the new Mac Pros are insane beasts from another dimension - way more power than I need.

Trouble(?) is that I have the luxurious 30" ACD and just can't let go. Can any of the iMacs drive this behemoth at its native res (2560x1600)?

Apple - iMac - Tech Specs

# Support for external display in extended desktop mode
* Digital resolutions up to 1920 by 1200 pixels
* Analog resolutions up to 2048 by 1536 pixels

I take it this means no?

Any suggestions in general on what to do?

Thanks,

Rob

Nope; to use the 30" (at native resolution) you need a Mac Pro or a MacBook Pro.

The video cards used in the iMacs could support a dual link DVI port, but Apple chose not to equip it with one.

Sell the 30" or get the base model Mac Pro with a single (quad-core) processor. Or find a used/refurb Mac Pro (older model) for "cheap."
