Yes, it is a medical display. But because of it, it has internal greyscale calibration sensors and light intensity sensors that will (try to) compensate for age-related dimming of the backlight. They are very tightly calibrated displays that produce simply fantastic images, regardless of the content. Then again, at $7.5K, it better.

I'd have to say neither.

I love the look of Apple displays, but I buy and recommend ViewSonic LCDs almost exclusively. I've seen complaints about the speakers and various inputs, but I don't buy the display for its audio capabilities ;-) Give me DVI-D and a 19"+ panel any day.

I have a Dell 2007FPW and I love it. I like Apple's displays, but they're way overpriced. If the 20" ACD was closer to the Dell's price, I probably would have gone that route.

Thanks, I though about medical displays being greyscale displays only, (I think it was a NEC medical display the one I read about the culprit I thought so), but I downloaded the Barco .pdf file and it also does color… is that right?

Many medical-grade are greyscale, but some are color. Some of the greyscale ones are even more expensive than the color versions (they make fewer of them; economy of scale).

Recently I bought 22 inch Gateway 2275W and am using it with cinema display 20" side by side.
If font smoothing off, both monitors give sharp/crisp fonts but I feel more blurred on Gateway if smoothing is applied.
I also tried Acer 2223W (much darker than cinema display, so I returned) but again smoothed font on cinema display is better.
All monitors were connected by DVI.
Why is this happen ?
My eyes get tired easily moving between two monitors that have different sharpness.

Thank you.

Different LCD panels, possibly using different technologies (S-IPS, MVA, PVA, etc).

Components don't actually carry true HD quality - its closer to DVD quality.

For true HD you need a digital input such as DVI or HDMI.

While we're at it:

We wouldn't have Mp3's without Lp's.
Apostrophes are used to indicate possessive or to form contractions. Mp3s and LPs should not have apostrophes.

Dell, I have a 2407, with my Mac and Xbox 360 plugged into it.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Who said it was supposed to be?

I suggest getting these sorts of basic grammar rules straight in your head. This isn't a threat, I don't care whether you decide to blow me off or not, this is for your own good.

So do a lot of people, it seems. I only offered the correction since we were already knee deep in grammar school

The big problem: all the new displays are too bright and have no provision to reduce the brightness without crushing the blacks throwing color accuracy out the window. Apple's displays are not as bright and therefore easier to look at.
I pretty much agree. I haven't found Dell's LCDs to have particularly good image quality. If you want a good LCD but don't want to pay Apple prices, I would recommend Viewsonic.

Anyone here got a 30" Apple display? I need to know the height of the LCD (without the stand).

I'm looking at buying either the Dell E228WFP (22") or E207WFP (20"). These displays have DVI interfaces and are HDCP compliant. That means if I wanted to at some point, I could use one as a TV with a HDMI to DVI converter, with video coming from a DVR? Right, am I missing anything?

I can't afford a really nice monitor right now (i.e. the 30" Dell 3007WFP), but I don't want to buy something that I'll have to practically give away a few years from now, like I'm doing with my current CRT.

After everything I said, I can't believe I did it, but I bought a Dell 30" from Costco.com for $1250.

If Apple's display was in the $1500 range I would have bought it. But I can't give up $800 for that aluminum frame.

Sorry Apple.

My grammar isn't bad, it is usually fine, I just slipped that one time, and it is great, you just attack me for that one time. Thats why I was pissed.

And buckaroo, I think you made the right decision, I consider myself a fool for buying an apple display.
