I've always wondered if it was bad for your health to fall asleep with your head completely under your bed covers, with no ventilation. Common sense tells me that your oxygen supply would eventually end up fairly depleted by the end of the night and probably cause some damage but I can't tell if 8 hours under covers would cause enough oxygen to be used to be harmful.
any thoughts?

If your oxygen gets low you'll just throw the covers off in your sleep. Reflex action.

Why would you want to do that in the first place? I'd personally feel claustrophobic immediately.

My cat sleeps under the blankets all the time.

I like my water with hops, malt, hops, yeast, and hops.

I sleep like that all the time, and have never died of asphyxiation.

Your blanket isn't exactly air tight. Most likely you're not going to be able to deplete enough of the O2 to make it an issue. Like the same reason why it's not an awful thing to sleep with your door shut.

A comforter can be rather heavy, and doesn't need to seal all the way around the bed - merely over your mouth. You shouldn't leave any loose materials (blankets, etc) in the crib/cradle of a newborn because they can actually suffocate from it. Obviously, they lack the motor skills and strength to throw off the blanket, but my point was more about the possibility of suffocation from a blanket.

I suppose it's possible, but not really likely for a full-grown adult with most of their motor skills intact. Very young children or small animals, on the other hand, could be at a small risk.

Seeing as how we have never heard of this happening, ever... I would say that you are ok.
Unless they figure in something like Sudden Adult Death Syndrom exists, then all bets are off.

Mine too but I still worry that they might not get enough air.

Mine also sleep under the covers.
Cats aren't dumb. If they need air, they will come out.
The biggest danger of a cat under the covers is sitting on one, which I have done many times.

Was trying to Google Image that Farside comic for the advertisement of the Monster Snorkel (with the kid hiding under his covers, using a snorkle, with all the monsters running aboutn. )

That's good. Because after two or three times, I bet the dog would get mad at you.
