dudes, I finally got around to putting in my maxtor 46 gig HD. It freaking RULES. Its so quiet I can't even tell if its spinning..... does anyone have a ... utility that lets you know when it is accessing the HD? Like a blinky light thing for the apple menu bar? I seriously can't hear this thing at all, so I don't know if it is locked or not. :|

I think one of the Norton Utilities has a control panel that can do that. I think it's DiskLight.

A warning, disk light screws with 9.1 pretty majorly...
I saw someone who had attached an LED to the HD array and put it in the Apple logo on a G4 or G3 tower... you could do that on an iMac too I assume...
Anyone here done it to a G4 tower??

Sheet! How does DiskLight scew with OS9.1? I've got it running with 9.1 at the moment but will take it off if the consequences are dire.

Look in the docs that came with the drive. There is a "LED" set of pins on the drive. Run a wire to the LED from these two pins (watch polarity) and you have a light.

How bout a lighted Apple on the G4 Tower? I know Norton Disk light will show you disk activity. Get the newest one if you are using 9.1

Ca$h, if you go onto Maxtor's website, they'll usually have the drive descriptions with schematics of where to put the LED connections etc. At least i know IBM and Seagate have these schematics on their sites, i would assume Maxtor would too! Good luck :-)
