Seriously, these poor kids are going to being counseling for the rest of their lives (for the names, not the cake). It'd be like naming your kid Satan - nothing good can come from it.

"The father of 3-year-old Adolf Hitler Campbell, whose request for a birthday cake with the child's full name on it was rejected by a New Jersey supermarket, is asking for a little tolerance."
So a white supremacist is asking for tolerance? That doesn't make any sense.

What the hell is wrong is that these are totally ignorant people, who's main focus in life is protecting their so-called white identity, as if someone is going to make them a different color. The world is full of ignorant people like them; some are racists, some are religious, some hate gays, some hate Republicans, some hate Democrats, some hate Jews, some hate Muslims, and unfortunately none of them understand that no one else can change who you are but you.

The Campbells' other two children also have unusual names: JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell turns 2 in a few months and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell will be 1 in April.
fuuck in hell. they should legally change their names when they get older or have to deal with crap the rest of their lives.

That's the most horrible part of the story. Thankfully you can't give your children idiotic names over here. Your city (where you register your kid when it gets born) can deny ridiculous names.

After reading an article about this news story, it seems the father is at worst a neo nazi or one of those Aryan nation followers who say they're not racist they just don't want to have co-mingle with them.
I agree with the other posts, I feel bad for the kid, its awful to be named after a monster who was responsible for so much evil

In this instance, it is rather stupid seeing as how they're white supremacists.
However, as a side note, Adolf Hitler was not an uncommon name in Germany and several other countries. Adolf's extended family has not changed their last name from Hitler. There are still a lot of people named Hitler. Can you imagine if someone named John Smith went on and committed genocide? Half of America would want to change their name.

For a very long time in America, white people considered black people subhuman, stupid, and inferior. For an even longer period of time, women were considered simple minded and incapable of learning. We extend free speech to "idiots" like Martin Luther King because even if you disagree with them, it doesn't mean what they have to say shouldn't be heard.
You never know when stupid people will steer the world to a better direction.

That poor kid. Not just for the name, but what he'll be taught. Hopefully his name is enough to drive him away from that way of thinking.

Question: If the father’s family name actually were ‘Hitler’, would you guys then think it okay for him to name his child ‘Adolf’?

I guess the history channel is not big in their house. Oh well the young lad doesn't understand. Just think of his first day of school. That's when all the grief will start for him.

Really? I only know that...
At least Adolf used to be a common name - it became unpopular for obvious reasons.
I don't know how common Hitler was.
All (really all) Hitlers in Germany changed their last name.
Quite a few of Hitler's relatives live in the states - I'm not sure if they changed their name but I would believe so.

I had a discussion last night with some people about terrible names. My friend's mom works in Kansas City and has spent time visiting houses in the projects to verify the need to state-assisted school lunches. One (literal) crackhead mom named her kids Oh-ron-juh-loh and Yuh-law-juh-loh. Spelled "Orangejello" and "Yellowjello." She's also encountered a "fuh-mall-ee" spelled "Female."

The first Hitler ever was Adolf Hitler's father who changed to this name as an adult. So the only Hitlers where Adolf Hitler and his siblings, all of which either died without offspring or changed their name to something else at some point.

In my post, I made it clear which version was the actual spelling, so with that knowledge at your disposal, the version demonstrating the name's correct pronunciation could be deduced.

I mean, personally, I think a parent has a right to name their kid whatever the hell they want, even if it's a stupid name. The kid can always change it later if they hate their name, but I think it's a little far-reaching for the government to decide what constitutes "ridiculous" or "not ridiculous" when picking a name for your child.

I think there was a relatively recent interview with them that included questions about why they haven't changed their last name. Basically it boiled down to that they weren't going to let a horrible person ruin their last name (even though Adolf changed it to Hitler.)
Now it is extremely rare, obviously because of its connotation.
Edit: Come to think of it, it might not be his extended family, but a family in Germany that happened to have the last name of Hitler.

Hm, interesting, I have never heard of that. Do you have any links about that ?
The only thing I found (in German) was this:
Alois Schicklgruber war Hitlers Vater.
Als Alois (Hitlers Vater) auf die Welt kam, waren seine Eltern nicht verheiratet (seine Mutter hiess Maria Anna Schicklgruber). Fünf Jahre später hat seine Mutter Johann Georg Hiedler geheiratet (1842). Alois Schicklgruber wurd mit 39 Jahren offiziell Alois Hitler. Weil Adolf nach diesem Namenswechsel geboren wurde, hiess er Adolf Hitler.
Edit: ok, dug this out:

I believe there is at least ONE still remaining.
There's one who lives in Wismar, according to the phone book.
And I'm not sure, but there may be another (a person I knew had a man of that name in a corporate address book).
