I heard that its not a good idea to be always logged in as root, so I decided to change but alot of my folders are locked(they cant be modified) my music folder is empty (i cant get the ones from the root user to copy there) and my deskop is gone, I want the files that were on it in my new desktop. How do I do this?
When im in one user I cant copy the files over to the other, and vice versa. Its really frustrating!!!

A simple way to get your files is to do it the other way around (because root has all privlieges).
Log-in as root, copy all your files in the folders of your new user with the finder.
Then open a terminal.
and enter the following command:
chown -R myuser:staff /Users/myuser
and replace both "myuser" with the short name of your new user. This is very important to make the new files "owned" by the new user and not by root.
Once this is done, log-in with your new user.

frustrating.. but that's unix for 'ya
<abstaining from root user lecture>
if you can't open up files in your home dir (not root's dir, your user's), assuming your OS X username is 'digiology':
try typing 'sudo -R chown digiology:staff /Users/digiology' and enter your user's password at the prompt.
To copy your music files over, 'cp /path/to/files/* ~/Music/' should work (if you have sub-directories, add '-R' after cp to copy them as well). if you get permissions errors, prefix the command with 'sudo' and re-chmod those files as in the first step. (if you use sudo to copy the files, they will be owned by root)
I think, but I'm nor sure, the path to root's home dir is '/var/root' - but don't quote me if that's wrong.
Anyone, please feel free to add, correct, or improve any of my suggestions
