So, this weekend, my wife discovered that a 3Gs will not survive a trip through the washing machine
She'll be getting a new one either tomorrow or the next day. The dead iPhone was backed-up/synced to her iTunes account. Can I assume that, when she plugs-in the new iPhone, iTunes will ask if she wants to restore her previous back-up (from the dead iPhone) onto the new phone? If not, what is the proper way of getting the previous back-up onto the new phone?
Thanks.

Once the new iphone shows in iTunes, right click it and choose restore from backup.

Awesome. I expected it would be that simple, but just had to make sure. Thanks!

Oh...Should I make sure "Prevent iPhones from syncing automatically" is enabled when we first connect the new iPhone? Seems like I wouldn't want iTunes to try and sync a basically blank iPhone, right?

No, for a blank phone, it’ll ask if you want to set it up as new or restore from backup. And if you set it up as new, iTunes actually treast it as new and won’t remove/overwrite the old phone’s backup.
