Wasn't quite as difficult as I thought it was going to be. The idea is you have to drink 24 cans in 24 hours. Went for Carling (4%) because it was cheap. It is disgusting, but I figured by about no.23 anything's going to taste bad. Had a nice time roaming the college at about 4am, watching the mist form a blanket over the deer park as the sun came up. Didn't actually cause too much ****, from what I can remember. Anyone else done drinking challenges? I'm very tired.

The 24-Can Challenge isn't nearly as bad as Power Hour. A full shot of beer every minute for an hour. Ugh...
The best one I've heard about, though, is Edward 40-Hands. You take two 40s and duct tape one to each hand. You can't take them off until you're completely finished with both bottles.
I've heard it makes going to the bathroom quite difficult.

uHawaii reigning champ here! i held one strategy- get them finished before you have to pee or before the 40s get warm.
to hell with power hour, lets talk about centuries- 100 shots of beer for 100 minutes. my roomate tossed at minute 97! bammer. yeah, im a little too excited about this, but it was damn fun.
carry on.

Power Hour! OM.
Given that some shot glasses can hold from 2 to 3 ounces each, that equates to
the following.
a.) 2 ounces every minute x 60 = 120 ounces = 10 (12 ounce beers)
b.) 3 ounces every minute x 60 = 180 ounces = 15 (12 ounce beers)
a.) 1 beer every 6 minutes
b.) 1 beer every 4 minutes
Is that supposed to be fun? (I am getting old, because it just sounds stupid.)

I doubt I could drink 24 glasses of water in 24 hours, let alone 24 beers...

blah, beer? boring been there, done that. century club 2x. 24 beers, 24 hours, done that too. oh, a beer every hole playing 18 holes...lots of times.
when you want to step up to the plate, try this:
the 10-3 club.
10 shots of jack, 10 taco bell hard shell tacos, 10 white castle hamburgers in an hour. have done that several times. it may not sound like much...
the next up is the 10-4 club. same as above, but add in a clear liquor too. a few of us tried everyclear. i got 4 in. others only got 2 in. i didn't puke/pass out or anything but i HURT real bad in my gut.
won't do the 10-4 anymore as i don't like any other clear liquors besides everlcear and it just hurt too much. but will do the 10-3 when i get challenged

Then the math works out like this:
1.5 ounces every minute x 60 = 90 ounces = 7.5 (12 ounce beers)

The one time I took a (2 oz.) shot of 190 proof Everclear, my stomach was not the same for about three days. That was the last time I drank it straight.

i cant believe that drinking is such a measure of who we are that we have to brag online about how much we drink at any given time

I was up for doing the 'centurion' thing which is a shot of beer a minute for 100 minutes. The thing about the Challenge is the sheer volume of liquid you've got to get through, plus no sleep. If you want to get any sleep you have to go faster than one an hour. We started at 3pm and I finished at 11am so it was about 18.5 pints (they were 440ml cans) in 20 hours. One of my friends didn't make it as he paced it all wrong - was really going for it, until he chundered.

seems to me that the only real challenge is staying up and fighting the urge to drink so damn slowly when you first start out. beer an hour? damn, thats nothing. no buzz till youre already 4 hours in?

Where I come from it is called a Tray Day, except we have twelve hours to consume the 24 cans.
It is very easy to achieve. Drink 12 in the first 3 hours and pace yourself from there. Last time I did it I drank 32 beers (I was in my drinking prime), 26 in the 12 hours and the remainder over another 3.
100's club (100 shots in a 100 minutes) is another story! Especially when you play can't piss or throwup as well.

I love PowerHour, it's the best way to start out a night. After an hour or so of casual sitting around after that it's fun to throw in an ice cube tray race. For an ice cube tray race you take an ice cube tray and fill it with beer (a normal ice cube tray should hold exactly one 12 oz. beer) you and your opponent get on opposite sides with straws and see who can suck up their 6 cubes first. It's only half a beer, but a few rounds adds up.

First off, a beer an hour for 24 hours wouldn't even get you drunk, because your body metabolizes about a beer in an hour.
We always used to do what we called Case Race. It would be two man teams, one case of beer. First team to finish their case would win a prize, normally a bottle of Absolut or something. First time I did it, I had my half(12 beers) down in 53 minutes. i ended up drinking 16 of the 24 beers in the case and we won by like 25 minutes. Ever since then, few dare to challenge my drinking skills
We also did Captain Races, which was the same thing but you'd have to split a handle of Captain Morgan instead of a case of beer. That one REALLY messes you up badly.

Technically speaking, yes, a shot is 1.5 ounces. The only shot glasses I ever saw or used though were 2 to 3 ounces.
Even with 1.5 ounces, that is still: (as stated earlier)
1.5 per minute for 60 minutes = 7.5 beers in 1 hour.

With 1.5 oz shot glasses it works out to 7.5 beers. A lot, yes, but nothing close to dangerous. I did a power-half-hour once, because I was too chicken to do the full hour. Shot of beer every two minutes.

No no, it is not bragging, nor a measure of who we are, but merely a different type of reminiscence of a fond memory or time. Such was the time I was in Thailandit was during a chap's bachelor party. we had started out at his place for a liter or two of beer, then off to a bar for drinks, where we ate and I had seven or eight drinks from the pitchers. then off to a fire show at a local bar where some bastard brought a bottle of the emerald devilabsintheof which we all had four shots in under 20 mins, not the recommended dosage, and 2-3 beers. Needless to say, we had to stop drinking for 30 mins or so, a nice breather, and ended up at another bar where we drank beer and had a few shots a piece, then got kicked out for our raucous behavior. After which, we headed to yet another bar and drank a lot more. The night ended with us breaking bottles, scaring the prostitutes, and getting into a fight with army soldiers. the next day I had no idea how I arrived in my hotel room! Ah fond memories!
