I like useless, quirky did-you-know kinda stuff. For whatever reason I think useless facts and trivia are fun...especially when they relate to geography.

So here are a few in the geography realm...

Did you know that Alaska is the northernmost state in the US? Most likely. Did you know it was the westernmost state? Probably. But, did you know that Alaska is also the easternmost state? Probably not! It's chain of islands strech across the Prime Meridian (180�) placing a few of those islands in the Eastern Hemisphere. And, for the record, Hawaii is the southernmost state. Check it out!

Here's another. Poteau, Oklahoma claims to have the �World�s Highest Hill.� Cavanal Hill, with its peak 1,999 feet above the average surrounding terrain, is 1 foot short of the accepted height of a mountain, 2,000 feet. Yes, I know that there is no "official" difference between a hill and a mountain. Nevertheless, Poteau proudly claims it. Check it out! I've actually been there. It is really pretty.

Did you know that in a related story...Norman, OK claims to have the "World's Greatest University." Nevertheless, it's been shown over and over again that it's indeed Stillwater, OK that has this.
