I'm going on a business trip next week and I don't wish to take my original OS9 software disk in case I lose it etc.

Apparently, I have been told that in order to make a bootable/ extact copy f the OS9 CD-ROM (that came with my Mac ) I have to copy in it a special way.

Can any one tell me (in a step by step manner) how to do this or point me in the direction of somewhere I can find out.

I've been able to do this by using disk copy. Create an "image from device" and choose the cd/dvd-rom drive. Let it make the image.

Then use disk copy to burn the image, but burn it at 4x or slower (I've had problems with 8-16x burns).

It worked for me. Be sure to test it by trying to boot to it afterwards.

That'll work fine in OS X. If you're running 9, you'll need a program like Toast to do a disc copy. The "special way" you talk about is not simply copying the files off the OS 9 CD and burning them onto a blank CD-R. You'll want to use a program that reads the OS 9 CD bit-for-bit and then burns it to a CD-R. If you've got OS X, use Eriamjh's method, it'll work great.
