me and my bro got the idea to start taking pics of all the fish we catch this summer (salt and freshwater) and make a little short flick at the end of the year.
we were out on the bay for a few hours, caught a few sharks and then i had to take a leak. we had a little 12 foot boat out in the bay and the waves weren't bad, unless trying to take a leak...
one hit and both my camera and cell phone went in with me.
600 bucks down the drain.
the water felt good though

You think that sucks, just imagine if you were ripped out of the boat by a giant hook in your mouth! That's a bad day!

I'm also a fisherman and take my digi-cam along for the ride most of the time. I've also dropped mine into the river on more than one occation, soaked to the point of water being visible in the lenses. First time it happend I damn near threw the bastard against a tree, but then thought I might as well see what happens when it dries out. I took out the batteries, opened it up as much as possible, and left it in the open air for around a week. I tossed my batteries back in it after I felt it was as dry as it could get, and it worked! I think I've submerged mine 3 times now, and every time it works just fine. You should be fine as long as you didn't try to power the unit up while it was still wet.
jesse ;-)

That's why you get those sealable water-proof bags to keep them in when not in use...

There are such things as waterproof containers
-special for cameras
-otter boxes for small stuff
...
in future: don't be a klutz, get WATERPROOF gear
(or just imitate me - be really bloody paranoid)

Bummer man. Hope it dries out and works. I provide the camera for ou fishing club, luckily I haven't had it get wet or fall in (knock on wood), and I try to leave it in the truck if we have a wet tournament. You could get yourself a nice livewell, some Please Release Me, and photograph the fish at the dock, turning them back out there if you'r enot going to eat them.

Definitely take the time to dry the stuff out. Last summer I wandered out into the lake, water waist to chest high. I started to head back to shore, when I reached down and realized that my phone will still attached to my hip. I was bummin'. I flipped it open, looked at the screen and said, "Oh look...a little aquarium!" That' how much water got into my phone.
I pulled the battery and set it out to let it dry. A couple days later, I was thrilled when I threw the battery back on and it powered up and worked.

I dropped my cell phone it a toilet. Once it dried out and I disinfected the case, it worked great!

No thank goodness the toilet was just flushed. I had it in a pocket in my zipper sweatshirt. Sat down to take a crap and it fell out. The suckiest part was having to take a crap really bad, but not being able to until I got it out. By the time I got it out and sat back down, I probably looked like this:
