Today, I went back to a saved order I had at the Apple store for a dual 2GHz G5. I had configured it with the lowest-end video card, the GeForce FX 5700. When I viewed my order, it was flagged with an error, saying that one of the items was invalid - the GeForce FX. So, I configured a new G5 and found that now you can only get one with an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro or a 9800 Pro.
I'm not sure how much it affected price.

Ok, it looks like it's only for the dual-processor model. You can still get the GeForce FX for the 1.6GHz and 1.8GHz models. Hmph, I guess they figure that if you can afford a dual 2GHz machine, you wouldn't even consider an "inferior" video card.

The card is GeForce FX 5200 not 5700.
I'd get the ATI Radeon 9600 anyway. It's a much better card, for only $50 more.

The Radeon at the Apple store is not a 9600. It's an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, the fastest card ATI currently makes.

Wrong, both the 9600 pro and 9800 pro are available.

I just checked, and you're right. On the tech specs page is says 9600, but on the man powermac page is just says GeForce FX and Radeon 9800 Pro

Nvidia has had thier ups and downs, when they came out with the geforce 2 they couldnt be touched. The computer companies always have thier ups and downs. Radeons used to blow too with thier rage 128 cards (back in the day)

Um, I don't know for sure, since i've never played behind a GeForce, but I always loved ATi because their 32bit support has always been native with no loss in FPS.

ATI is still my fav brand ^_^ even though when I bought my machines they didn't get ati cards
Back from the days of the ATI 3D Rage cards (which were pretty damn sweet), and all of that goodness ^_^
The rage card will return someday. ... maybe they'll be good again heheh
