With the release around the corner- like the title says- who's getting one? What will you be using it for? Which one will you be getting? I don't really have a reason for getting one but I plan on getting the Apple Watch 42mm stainless steel with a leather band and a sport band.

Battery life appears to be horrid, not even lasting 1 full day, so absolutely not. The LG G Watch R is nice though, I get 2 days from mine, and the Pebble is even better (I can get a week with it).

I will not get one until it has at least one month of battery life. I get about 2 years from my current (non-smart) watch, so I am looking for something somewhat equivalent in battery life. I hate taking off my watch, so I'm not going to recharge daily.

I'd like one but I can't afford one and I don't really have any pressing need.

Probably gonna hold out for version 2.

Battery life of 1 day is just not cutting it.

Ha. I haven't been beta testing it with Xcode. My Mac gets all out of whack with two copies of Xcode installed at the same time. While I won't need the Apple Watch for work at all, I do have some ideas for it.

I don't wear normal watches, let alone smart watches so maybe i don't get it but is it really such a big deal to take it off at night and charge it?

I highly doubt it based upon what I've seen thus far. The notifications feature seems ... I won't say "useless" but it's definitely "unnecessary" since I always have my iPhone with me and its required for the watch to perform that function. So it's saving me the great stress of retrieving my iPhone from my pocket. Yeah. The fitness tracking functions are cool but there are far less expensive alternatives. Unless Apple has kept some other killer features close to the vest I just don't see myself springing for this anytime soon.

I thought of a cool idea for it. It would work with other smart watches but Apple might get the sort of adoption rate to really drive it. I envisage content that changes dynamically based on feedback from the Watch sensors. Imagine a version of Silent Hill that times its shocks based on your heart rate? Same could work for a horror movie. I know interactive movies have tried and failed before but I was thinking rather than a 'vote for what happens next' bit, the movie could simply adjust the pacing of certain chase scenes or stalking scenes based on the sensor feedback. Really ramp up the suspense as much as possible.
I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

Have the prices been announced?
I like the idea of a smart watch, but won't pay an arm and a leg to get one regardless of who makes it.

My wife is getting one by way of me, but I won't get one until I actually have a use for a big, heavy watch with shitty battery life. I've spent the past few years in utter freedom without a watch on my wrist - but if it had a camera on it so I could do Dick Tracy two-way video with Facetime - then I'd reconsider. In fact, the omission of a camera seems like a horrible omission. whatever, I do what I want.

Oh, I know, maybe they can include a wire when you can connect it to your iPhone to charge.

I really don't get the appeal. I definitely won't get the first version.

Maybe in a few years if the software goes in some interesting directions and everybody seems to love it.

Or if it gets a lot cheaper, which it won't.

There's no way I'm putting a watch on my wrist that won't last an entire day. For my job, I send/receive around 500 texts per day. The watch would be dead before I got home.

If the battery life is truly as bad as is being rumored, I'm worried about what the Watch's reception might do to Apple's reputation, especially considering the Android alternatives.

Also, after having months to think about it (and revisit Jony Ive's boasts about the design), I don't think it's nearly as beautiful as Apple believes it to be.

Waiting for revision two.

I almost think this battery life rumor is a purposeful leak from apple to lower expectations. That way when they release the real numbers and they are better, everyone will be talking about how they are better than expected instead of criticizing them for what they actually are.

They did the same thing with the iPad. It was pretty much considered carved in stone by the rumor mill that the thing was going to be $1,000. Then when it came out for $500 it was like some sort of miracle.

If He texted me directly, sometimes my job would be a lot easier.

Also, when you work with high schoolers and college-age students, you can say goodbye to voice calls or emails.

I don't think it'll get much cheaper, especially if it designed to be a fashion item. Honestly, I think quite a few people will throw a fit when Apple reveals the pricing of the watches and the bands. The fashion market is nothing like the computer/electronics market, things don't get cheaper and there is value in expensive goods for some people (e. g. some wouldn't want to be caught dead in a Honda Accord, they prefer to pay extra for a BMW or a Mercedes). My last watch band cost me ~100 €, about half of what some Android wear watches cost and about a third of the cheapest Apple Watch. I reckon Apple will price at least some versions of their Watch and bands accordingly.

I think they're going to find a way to seriously cripple the $350 watch.

To get the one anyone is actually going to want I guarantee you'll be in the $500+ range.

I'm still really skeptical about this thing. I just don't see the mass market appeal. I really don't.

Combining Apple's reputation for making overpriced fashion accessories with literal fashion accessories means the inevitable high prices will cause outrage among those that already hate Apple.

Apple haters usually use terms like "iSheep", which is ridiculous considering that they're all Android fans and are essentially doing the same thing they're bitching about. Makes me laugh every time.

74.6 million iPhone sold last quarter. Now shut up.

On Mercs, little things break constantly (or at least it feels that way), it's like a death by a 1000 paper cuts.

I love driving the DB4, everywhere I go people do the Bond theme. (Despite the fact the 4 was never in a Bond film, those were 5s, of course).

I find your graph surprising.

Over here people tend to hate the sort of people who drive Mercs. Not the Mercs themselves.

I'm genuinely surprised that all the German cars are negative on the graph. Is it because too many Americans don't fit in them maybe?

Anyway, back to the watch conversation...

The great smart watch craze of the past year or so has done more to inspire me to wear an actual watch again. I think Apple has it mostly right in that it's got to be more of a fashion accessory and health tracker. It's WORSE than a phone in battery life, interacting with text messages/emails, viewing information, and certainly for viewing photos.

One big "Why?" moment in Apple's presentation was when they talked about how important it was to scroll/zoom when viewing photos on the Apple Watch. I don't understand why I would show anyone a picture on my watch when a much larger screen that happens to be broadcasting the photos to my watch is resting in my pocket or on the table in front of me.

I've seen the number of fatties you have in the UK (#1 in Europe), you have no room to talk.

Maybe you're looking at a different graph? Porsche, MINI, Audi, and VW are negative. BMW and Mercedes are both positive, and Mercedes is in the top ten.

Is it because too many Americans don't fit in them maybe?
Did you really expect that one to go over well?

Maybe you're looking at a different graph? Porsche, MINI, Audi, and VW are negative. BMW and Mercedes are both positive, and Mercedes is in the top ten.
I only glanced at it and noted VW in particular who are normally rater pretty highly for reliability and based predominantly on that their overall reputation is very good. Audi = VW and Minis are BMWs and like I say Merc have a good rep here too. I see now that Merc is indeed positive. I may have been a touch sleep-deprived. Also there were some comments that led me to assume they might have faired rather worse.

Well since I wasn't aiming it at anyone specific and since its a fairly well-known issue I thought I might get away with it. I also thought it just might be true. What qualifies as a big Merc over here is not a big car at all next to some of yours. Or so I believe. I have trouble fitting comfortably into some cars that I perceive as quite large (certainly compared to mine) but its more an issue of headroom than girth. I have to wrench my neck at some unpleasant angles to get in or out of a recent 3-Series or Audi A3 (even the estate).

It's no longer the '70s; an A8, a 7-series, or an S-class is as big or bigger than any American sedan currently produced, especially the LWB versions. While the US no longer specializes in giant cars, I think the average car size is larger - the Focus is a small car, the Fiesta is ultra small, the Fiat 500 is a novelty, and no one would really consider having a family with anything smaller than an Accord or Camry.

Really? By whom?
