Oops, I meant 10 am EST, which would be 7 am PST. Or am I remember incorrectly? But like I said, Airport Express broke this rule anyway.

Well, it is finally out. This is the first upgrade to the G5 line and we will really be able to measure the sales potential of this line with this new PM.

While I feel they are a good upgrade, it isn't exciting enough for me to buy one. Funny enough, I would buy a 1.8 MHZ G5 iMac for $1,999.

The water cooling sytem is cool, but as long as it doesnt behave like my old CJ7 cooling system........

Probably a single-CPU variant version of the logic board (with 4 memory slots) that never made it out of prototype.

I am surprised someone got nice professional shot like that of a prototype

That someone would be Apple, because the picture is supposedly from an Apple service manual.

In that case they are nuts for making service manuals of significantly different prototypes.

Those pics don't match anything on Apple's site that I've seen.

The cooling system is the same (or so it seems) -- at least the heatsink cover is the same.

Just for laughs, I wonder if they'll still be shipping dual 2.0s with the old heatsink style OR if the heatsinks underneath will have the G5 emblems too!!

The motherboard is vastly different though.

What about these pictures being of the 3DP that Apple will announce later this year?

What does the Xserver board look like?

But they are very much like the pics in Apple's various support manuals, like the ones you download with instructions on how to install a hard drive and such. Those are not nearly as cleaned-up and pretty as the promotional shots.

My theory is that this was mocked up to show a single-processor variant that never got released; I think Apple went with the all-dual lineup late in development when they couldn't get faster chips to do, say, a single 2.0 and a dual 2.2 or whatever.

To reiterate:

First of all, the plates with the G5 logo on the old machines are not really part of the main heatsink assemblies. They are simply covers (although they do help to direct the air properly. And for the new cover, exactly what the design is underneath none of us know.

At least with the old design each cover covered a single heatsink and nothing more, hence two covers.

The current design is very different. There is one large cover covering probably an entire pipe system and radiator/heatsinks, and it's possible that both CPUs have a single common cooling system cooling both CPUs at the same time (as Apple's pic would suggest). It's quite a different setup and the fact is a cover design change is something that the AI picture accurately illustrated.

Big version

And I really don't understand... If the print pros don't think there is evidence for a faked picture why does everyone else?

In fact, I would not be surprised if only the dual 2.5 has this design, and the 1.8 and 2.0 have the old design.
