They just had a shot of 17th Ave. SW in Calgary (downtown area with lots of bars and shops) and the street is packed.

"Part of the learning curve in Edmonton is learning to hate Calgary."
- Steve Smith of the Oilers

But I imagine that all of Canada is behind the Flames for this run. Gold medal in the Olympics, Gold at the Worlds (back to back), the 2002 Olympic team returning (with improvements) for the World Cup, and a Stanley Cup run. Great times for Canada!

WOOO!!!!

Congrats to the Flames. Good series.

That's strange, I can't imagine rooting for the Dodgers or the Cowboys or any other hated sports rivals... but I guess Canada's a different place.

Why oh why couldn't my project in Calgary have lasted longer? I was there until the end of March and lived in downtown.

Who do you think the Flames have a better shot against, Philly or Tampa?

Probably Tampa. I think Philly would wear them down with their size.

Agreed, Tampa is a better match for the way Calgary plays, against Philly it'd be a much tougher, physical game.

I couldn't resist the temptation of watching the Flyers possibly play their last period of the season so I quit playing Gran Turismo and I watched and I was horrified as to how poorly the Lightning were playing. They really deserved to lose...

Hopefully they can close out the Flyers on Saturday.

Tampa is playing like an emotionally screwed up woman. Way too many mood swings. They need to keep the pressure on for the whole game, not 2/3 of it.

Should be an interesting third period.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I'm jealous of all your people in Florida because you get to see Vinnie Lecavalier play everyday. He has really made some creative plays today.

Awesome result. Great to see Bobby Clarke coming up empty again. Just goes to show that all the money in the world can't buy the will to win.

Where's the "Flyers -1" message?

It's just beautiful seeing Bobby Clarke missing out on the Big Dance once again.
The world needs more Canada.

I was wondering too... I'm not the biggest Clarke fan (well, not since he's been a GM anyway.) but it isn't like the Flyers have had a great run in the last, oh say 30 years!

That said, the Flyers need to gut the team. Tampa proved that aging vets are no match for talented youth... over the last two years, Clarke has turned us into the old age home for former Coyotes/Blackhawks. Before that he felt that the old last place Tampa teams were troves for talent.

Oh well, at least NJ and Detroit will not hoist the cup this year. As long at that happens, I can't say that it's all bad!

So now I guess I'll pull for the Flames... they have a few guys from the old Panther teams from back when I used to live in Florida. Isn't Lowery like 50 now? How is he still playing?

POLL: Tampa or Calgary?

Sportsmanship montra is the team that beats you should win so you lose to the best...

gut feeling is hey, red socks fans would NEVER root for the Yankees if beated by them (or visa vera...if that ever hapens)...so...screw it...go calgary, we lost and we don't deserve anything more...

ummm you?

I wonder if Calgary will stay in a hotel Friday night like Game 6 at home against the Sharks? Won't they tie the best road playoff record if they win Thursday?

Oh, and Calgary +1

Calgary was going great guns in the first, but then just couldn't stop Tampa. Ah well, at least it wasn't a shutout.

Flames +1 with a shutout!

Yeah, now that was a much better game. Calgary had been so inconsistent in these playoffs it's amazing that they've even made it this far.

Does anyone know why two flames were sent off at the beginning of the game? I know of the first penalty to Commodore but the Clark incident looked just like two guys battling after the fact.

And did you guys see the makeup call 5 mins later against Vinnie on play that is usually never called? I think the refs knew they screwed the flames at the beginning.

The Clark crosscheck was a valid call, just a bad thing to happen so close to the whistle. What pissed me off was no call on the Pratt's hooking, it was such an obvious takedown and they let it go. On the other hand, Nieminen was an idiot for the check into the boards.

Still, a better game, both teams were playing fast and physically. Calgary had their puck handling game on, but just couldn't do anything with it. Ah well, on to Thursday!
