Ah, I still remember the story of the guy that bought a Playstation2 box for $1300 from eBay (back around the original launch of the PS2 when the consoles were near impossible to find). Funny.

Both auctions clearly state what they are.

I remember seeing an iMac box sell for $30!

True, but the second one is deliberately being deceptive by using a picture of the iBook.

The auction for the ibook book is still active as I type, earlier it reached 150 but I notice a bid retraction has just been entered!!!

chocolatechevy1000 ( 1 ) ..............Cancelled: 170.00
Explanation:.............................User request, item confusion.
Bid:03-Jan-05 19:46:48 GMT
Cancelled: 03-Jan-05 20:38:49 GMT

What does the seller hope to gain from this? Remember he has a 136 F/Back record; far from novice status. Why risk the oncoming grief?

I agree. And the the phrase "iBook Book" is not in the title. It's really more of an iBook manual than a book.

I'll admit it.. I once did the same thing. Back when Xboxes were first comming out, I went to Florida to visit a friend of mine.. I say in a local EB that they had "Coming soon" X-box Boxes.. So I convinced the guy behind the register to sell me one for $10..

I did it for the hell of it, but, a few months later, when Xboxes start atually shipping, I put the box on eBay, for the hell of it. I was VERY clear, as this person was, that it was an X-box box... But I still got a few decent bids. No one actually sent me any money, though. They backed out, which is just as well, since I didn't really feel like ripping anyone off... I was just curious how well people read the description.

Answer- Not very well
