okay,
i'm running 9.2.1 on a powerbook G3/400.
i've performed a lot of resedit system hacks, run some custom extensions & control panels.
a lot of apps (ie dreamweaver, photoshop, quark, reason, finalcut, etc etc)
EVERYTHING is working beautifully, fast, stable.
now i have an osx cd in front of me. should i install it?? or stay with what works...
any thoughts? (& yeah, i know this isn't a new topic, but as a loyal macnn'er i thought i'd ask for ideas)
thanx!

Install it! I also have a Powerbook 400 (bronze keyboard) and 10.1.1 works like a charm. In fact, I rarely boot into 9.2.1 any more, esp. since Starcraft/Brood War was updated for OS X
From my experience, most software runs fine in classic. And if I need to (or choose to), I can always boot in to 9.2.1.

Don't install it if you wanna get real work done...
It's merely a toy right now.
Not to mention, it'll be slow on that system.

cipher...i knew your response before you wrote it! (not psychic, just read your posts throughout the forums...)
started the install last night, then interrupted it.
why mess with success??
when a lot of my apps are available for X, i'll make the move.
i just remembered what i tell my friends:
it's the work that matters.
the os is there to facilitate the work!!
and everything is running beautifully in 9.2.1...
peace!

lol
Are you always so resistant to change?
It's not that slow on my Powerbook 400. And it is a toy for some people I'm sure, but certainly not everyone. If you use FM Developer and Illustrator and BBedit to do much of your work, and make movies in your spare time (even with iMovie), it's far more than "a toy". ... Of course, I do have a G3 desktop running 9.1 so I can always have access to software that is not ready for X.
10.1.1 is noticeably faster. I encourage everyone to give it a try
