If something sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Mind you, it does seem quite convincing. Time will tell - if it is true this company will be bigger than M$ in a few years.

How much do you suppose Exxon will have to pay him to shelve the technology?

</cynic> sorry.

Very interesting read.

Actually prices might go down since the companys can make greater profits which means they can affort to compete a little more which means lower prices.

Bwahahahahha! 'Tis true ... but it might help their income once the oil wells dry up. Or at least, it'll help the world ease into this time. I also thought it was cool that the machine made water. I wonder if this water can be purified for consumption.

Sounds intriguing but, I just get this funny feeling that a lot of investors are going to lose money from this.

If I had money I could afford to lose, I would consider investing in them. It sounds plausible to me. It may not be the panacea it's presented as here, but it at least looks to be worth a shot. This could finally (almost) close the chemical systems of the modern world in to closed cycles.

I have some concerns, too. Like:
  • Nitrogen is a reasonably common chemical in living organisms. What happens to the nitrogen here? Ammonia? Ammonium nitrate (fertilizer)? Nitrogen gas (meh, 70% of the atmosphere is N2)? Nitrous oxide (booo!)?
  • A lot of what they produce will be burned. Will there be efforts to get the CO2 out of the atmosphere. Stuff like farming plants that use up CO2 and actually stores it (bamboo? sugar cane? kudzu? something with a quick grow time that literally drinks up CO2 to do so), and then feeding that stuff back in to the oil plant.
  • They mention a coke furnace. Is it possible to run it on something other than coke? Coke (from coal) is a non-renewable resource, so it would be nice if they could find a way to make this technology run on straight renewables. It's probably just the name of the type of furnace...

That's all I can think of right now.

it will be interesting if someone funds the emptying of the landfills for processing using this tech.

If a 175-pound man fell into one end, he would come out the other end as 38 pounds of oil, 7 pounds of gas, and 7 pounds of minerals, as well as 123 pounds of sterilized water.
Instead of the electric chair or gas chamber, death row inmates can be turned into something useful.

Another concern: they should use separate machines for when the solid products are for agricultural or industrial use. Basically, one of the ingredients in solder is lead, and unless they do a thorough job cleaning the machines afterwards, lead residues could be put in to the agricultural products. This is a bad thing because you don't want to put heavy metals such as lead anywhere in the food production system if you can avoid it. The easiest way to avoid the problem, I think, is separate machines.

If Steve Ballmer fell into one end how much BS will come out the other end?

Thank you for the link, interesting read. Today industries don't want to waste anything. It's good for the environment to recyle waste. I hope this turns out to be a thriving business!
