I'm trying to route the optical in to optical out which than leads to a receiver is this possible? The reason I'm trying to do this is because my logitech speakers only have 1 optical in port so rather than manually switching them I thought why not just use the optical in on my Mac Pro and route the sound to my optical out on my Mac Pro and eventually to my speakers. Is this possible without extra software? Has anyone done this and if so How?

This sounds like a massive job. Can't you get another audio PCI-E card of some sort.

I have plenty of more important things to do, if only I could bring myself to do them....

I could just buy an optical switch box... I need a DVI switch box as well just trying to save desk space and use the optical in port on my mac pro.
