OK.. I have to ask, and I know it's free and that PC's don't have it so this isn't really meant to sound to whiny.. but.

Why is the OS X spell checker so weak?

I mean, so often I try to spell a word as close as I can so it can correct it, and it simply doesn't find it.. so I end up using google or something else. For example, I just tried to spell "unmitigated" which I spelled with two T's.. so "unmittigated" and it didn't find the correct spelling... how hard is it for the spell checker to correct a double t error

The good news is that it appears to learn, cause in this post, it was able to correct it had I opted to do that.

No idea.

But if you're prepared to spend $39.95, there's always Grammarian, which is pretty excellent.

My built-in spell checker found unmitigated as you spelled it.

Ditto. It could just have been a temporary glitch on your system. I can't recall having much trouble with it myself.
