When I restarted Apple's Mail app today I was asked to create a new account.

But when I use Spotlight I can still see my received and sent email.

My account's still in /Users/Paolo/Library/Mail/[email protected]/

Any and all ideas on how to fix this would be most appreciated!

1. Can I ask why you aren't using IMAP for Gmail? Just curious.
2. If you recreate an account, you might be able to re-import those messages once you get back into Mail. Be sure to backup the Mail folder first in case it doesn't work.

Can't I restore it to what it was before using the same account settings and data in the inbox/sent/etc?

move the file com.app.mail.plist from the prefernces folder inside Library in your user folder.

Restart mail. Import.

That should fix it.

As 64stang06 said copy the mail and mail downloads folder to your desktop before hand. If all goes well just delete them after.
