Microsoft has released Office Mobile, a companion iPhone app for Office 365 subscribers. The app lets users access and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents hosted on SkyDrive or SharePoint, or else attached to email messages. Documents can also be created wholesale and/or commented on, but only in the case of Word and Excel.

Some other options include offline editing, which resyncs edits when a connection is restored, and the ability to share documents via email, SkyDrive, or SharePoint. At least two features are reserved for Office 2013 for Windows users however. These include synced Recent Documents lists, and Resume Reading, which will open up a Word file from SkyDrive at the same place a person last left off on another device.

Aside from demanding an Office 365 subscription, the app is a free download and runs on any iOS 6.1 device except for the iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, or fourth-gen iPod touch. A 365 subscription can be bought as an in-app purchase for $100.

Wow, did not see that one coming. But do I get this right - this is iPhone-only, not iPad-optimized? Oh dear.

MS logic:
Maybe if we tease users with MS Office on iPhone, they will soon flock to buy MS Tablet with full blown MS Office.

Agree w/ coffeetime...don't see a whole lot of editing tools within this app. In comparison to feature-rich Doc To Go and QuickOffice, this app seems to be a tease to get you to migrate to Win8 tablets & phones for the full benefits of true Office programs. (Plus don't get me started on the $99/yr "deal")

Pass!

Yeah, that's a head-scratcher, there.

Microsoft...I don't know whether to hate them or pity them. Perhaps the latter because of their CEO.
