How did you get the Omniweb icons in Chimera, and how hard is it to do?

I saw the Mozilla Orbit skin on a co-workers Linux box, and just had to have it. While poking around mozilla.org, I noticed an even nicer (IMNSHO) version of Orbit called Retro. Here's how it loks copied into Chimera (I had to create a few non-existing icons, such as the font increase/decrease size buttons):
http://www.holyzoo.com/~jeff/ChimeraOrbitRetro.jpg
Let me know if there's interest in it, I'd be happy to bundle it up in a sit file.

Easy actually: you open up the OmniWeb bundle and search the needed tiff files in the Resources folder, then you copy them to the Chimera Resources folder and name them like the original Chimera tiff files. Like this: copy Reload.tiff from OW bundle to Chimera bundle, rename reload.tiff (not capital letter in chimera) to something else or just delete it, then name the copied Reload.tiff to reload.tiff . Repeat this process for all icons you want to replace. What an explanation
As for the text field, I messed around with the nib a bit. If you want I can post it.

There is already an Orbit theme available:
http://homepage.mac.com/reinholdpenner
ChimerIcon and ChimeraKnight work very well, and have been updated to include bigger/smaller text icons, and he's restructured the way themes are stored making them easier to work with.
I'm running the NSClassic theme.

Not to split hairs, but Retro is a different skin than Orbit.

According to the Chimera mailing list, Monday's build (11/25/02) will include a new set of default icons ... same basic design, but "sharper" looking. They're definitely an improvement.

I see no one has posted anything with something other than navigational icon changes... I moved my favicon display to the left of the location bar and made the location bar rounded.

oh I meant the readout to have an indigo blue glow...but only if it used an itunes like metal theme...I would prefer itunes to have an indiglo looking display too for the read out...no biggie...im just not a big fan of so much white... I am looking forward to things matching the iserver look in the future instead of things as they are now matching the original imacs....
anyway I have a pic of tomorrows build (from the eternal forum) with new icons if you wanna look see...

Haven't you noticed? Chronic cynicism takes no skills, little energy, no education, and if you do it really well in poorly-lit coffee-houses, it gets you laid.

I would like to use alternative toolbar icons (I ported the Omniweb Icons once, made the URL window rounded & made it a 'textured' window in interface builder), but I like having the latest build more so, and I can't get ChimerIcon to work with ChimerNight. So all my personal mods went out of the window.
I also attempted the same sort of thing with OmniWeb (Hacking the interface with Interface builder making it 'textured' but it just makes the app unuseable.

I also like the rounded location bar better but I can't seem to find it anywhere. Can you point me to its location?

It's an 'interface hack' you have to open Chimeras .nib file in the interface builder (from the developer tools CD) then changing the URL box is just a case of selecting the box and checking a tick box. Unfortunately if you are on the 'Nightly Chimera Crack' you nead to do this for evry new build, although the rounded box looks better, changing the .nib file evry day gets old real quick.
This UI inprovement should be put in the builds as it looks far better than the regular square one.

The problem is that I don't know what .nib file to alter. I have looked in every .nib file in the Contents but I just couldn't find the location bar.
You are right about it being a hassle when using nightly builds though. But still....I'd like to try

BrowserWindow.nib , there's an NSView called LocationView. That's what you need to edit.

Slightly off topic here, but has anyone read anywhere when a non-beta release of Chimera will occur? I love the speed of it, but can't handle not being able to have auto-complete in the URL window (that's how I get to my bookmarks....just tab in and type one or two letters and return). I also don't like not being able to change the tab functionality....I want it to tab to text windows only and not every single item on the page.

Hey - will all these GUI customizations work with Chimerachanga? If so could you save them? I really like the more Mac-like address field (oval). I must admit that I prefer the Omniweb icons to the default Chimera ones as well.

Sure. It is a icon set based on the new Opera 7 for the PC. It is almost an aqua ripoff, but the icons were cool

Wow, that Orbit theme is great! It is even cooler with DSX too! Check it out!

They're just the OmniWeb icons. Get them inside OW's app bundle.

Rickster from Omni will love you for posting that!
The rounded URL textfield is much nicer. Hopefully they'll change it in the proper build...

Well, I wrote the Chimera team about this "feature" being implemented (the round URL box) and got a response saying something to the fact that this feature wouldn't work in 10.1, therefore, they can not use it. Is this true? I need to write a response back and was thinking surely it's possible in 10.1 for this.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's not natively available in 10.1, but you can do it like OmniWeb does, compose the field of images. But that way it doesn't change with an update of the round toolbar look in a theme.
So you can't use the rounded text field in 10.1 unless you make a transparent text field on top of the rounded images.

Actually, there is NO reason why they can't implement it. Switching it over will, yes, display a rounded textbox in 10.2, and in 10.1 and lower, it will just be a rectangular one like we were used to. There would be ZERO loss of functionality for 10.1 users.
