Seems like we're getting one more promising player, XinePlayer. Works well so far, and feels smoother than VLC and MPlayer.

Hmm. A "one window" player like quicktime... I might like it.

OMMMGGGGG MY EARSSS!!! the audio amplification is nuts.

Slider almost to the lowest end, and still loud.

Also, the bezel around the video is a pit over the top, something like quicktimes would be better (light from the top, and 1 pixel.

The lighting on the bevel is mostly correct, if he's trying to "sink" the player into the window rather than "raise" it out. According to the interface guidelines, the window should appear lit from the top of the screen, but the player is going by the OS9 guidelines (it's lit from the top left, not the center top). Either way, it's also definitely too thick.

Anyway, this looks interesting, and the Xine engine has a good reputation in Linux circles. However, its format support is still a little bit behind the other two alternative players, so I think I'll stick with MPlayer and VLC for the time being.

Oh, and I strongly suggest they re-do the look of their Play/Forward/Rewind versions, or else Apple might start to get nervous.

Interesting. For DVDs, it looks like XinePlayer actually uses the VLC engine.

And yeah, they need to change the interface. It basically looks like QuickTime Player a little bit earlier in the day.

I like it. When I change a movie from normal to double size it almost does a zoom in type thing. Other players just "snap" to the size that you want.

Mmm, hadn't noticed that yet. It's indeed quite nice.
