Ok so maybe it's no Hurricane Katrina/Rita etc. but the Santa Ana winds kicked up today to start off our Fire Season out here in Southern California and on Day One we have a pretty big blaze just northwest of Northridge and southeast of Simi Valley. The whole mountain is on Fire!

They've shut down the 118 freeway going East into Northridge and West into Simi, and that means the only way North/South is on the 101 freeway and that means 1 Mph the entire way into and out of LA if you are traveling that way.

God must really be hating Christians lately, the first thing to catch fire was the Church at Rocky Peak which had a towering white cross always lit up on the 118 freeway. Well that's gone. (Seriously though, I don't really think God has it out for Christians, I was just making fun of the people on TV that keep saying all of these natural disasters are because of heathens in our culture).

Anyways, this is just the start, so everyone stay safe and remember....

Smokey: Only who can prevent forest fires?
(Bart presses the "You" button.)
Smokey: You pressed "You," referring to me. That is incorrect. The correct answer is "You"

Here's a link to our local news:

We almost have Hurricane Strength winds here. WHERE'S THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT RESPONSE!

People are going nuts out here. Do you know how hard it is to get a cup of Starbucks in Moorpark right now? Those poor people! You can't even enjoy your Jamba Juice in peace without smelling these fires. The only place of solice to go out here is the Pacific Coast Highway. Do you know how boring it is to have to look at the sunset on the Pacific Ocean? I can only imagine what it must be like for those poor people in Northridge and Simi who will loose power tonight and not have any High Definition television to watch. President Bush needs to declare a disaster area and get Brownie out here immediately! Maybe even a nice low flyby in Air Force One is in order to give these citizens of Southern California hope in the face of a complete disaster. I mean homes are THREATENED here!

Actually all joking aside, the fires are getting really bad, they have spread from the 118 freeway across the entire stretch of the San Fernando Valley and made their way to the whole other side and are threatening shutting down the 101 Freeway near Oak Park/Agoura Hills.

Help is on the way; saw crews from 3 States headed South on I-5
yesterday. Lots being sent from here in No Cal.

Actually think your smoke is headed up the Valley
and interfering with our rice chaf burning smoke -
actually makes it smell better I think.
(wood smoke vs rotting rice chaf smoke)
