http://scirocco.dhs.org/vw/list/twin/twin.htm

This 1986 VW scirocco originally had a 90hp 1.8ltr eight valve engine. Now the car has two 2.0ltr 16 valve engines fed with nitrous oxide. Each engine is rated at 275 hp at 8100 RPM, for a total of 550 hp. The power is put to the ground through two 5 speed transmissions and all wheel drive.

It's beautiful, but "estimated performance"? Does it actually run? Having 2 engines working together seems rather complicated.....

Heh. My mechanic (just visited him yesterday for him to give my van a good look-over) once turned a friend's Scirocco into a rear-engine AWD for rally-racing. Used the AWD from a VW synchro bus. Re-tooled the steering as well.

Apparently, it's still running - well.

I love my mechanic. He himself stopped racing a couple of years ago, 'cept for the occasional just-for-fun thing.

That rocco is absolutely gorgeous. I want to see it run a 1/4 mile so we get something better than "estimated performance".

Maybe at Waterfest this year...

Hell yeah.

Total freak, lives in his garage in back of a gas station. All that, and the nicest guy imaginable.

He actually lent my friend his own camper van for a weekend (even delivered it to his front door), because he hadn't got around to fixing his up yet (there was a lot of work to do). And then, my friend brought him his van to get two or three things fixed, and at last count, he's fiddled with at least a dozen different things: "Oh, btw - I tweaked your engine up a bit. Mileage should be better, and if you really try, you should be able spin the wheels when you hit the gas.

---
Gotta love a guy who looks over your workhorse's engine and says, "Only 140km/h! What!? This thing can do 160, no problem. See, it's just a matter of this valve here and this filter..." The car is rated at a max speed of 132 km/h...

I'm lucky enough to have 2 shops that I trust within pushing distance of my house. The first one has been run by the same 2 brothers since they got back from WWII. Don't ask them to do any computer diagnostics, but they'll do oil changes, tire rotations and other basic service very affordably, and they're as honest as they come. Unfortunately, as cars advance and they don't, I can't see them being around a whole lot longer. Plus, they're getting pretty old themselves....

The other guy actually has current scanners and such to get info. He's a funny guy- schedule an oil change 10 days in advance, and he might or might not get it done the day you bring it in. But the day my Jeep CJ snapped it's U-joint he had it repaired the same day, with no notice. Making a solution to that is far more interesting to him than oil changes. He's a big VW guy, which means I'm comfortable taking my Corrado to him, but he downright hates my Volvo.

I remember the Scirocco well. Nice pictures, thank you for the link.

Satin silver 1992 SLC. Stock except for a chip and the 17" Fittipalid Argus rims. This is how she looked at Treffen 2003:

This was a beauty of a Scirocco there last year- a supercharged 4 cyl in there. But just one.

There is a 900+ hp a2 gti with a similar setup, using VR6s instead of 2L 16Vs.

It's really sexy.

Cool link. I dig scirocco's quite a bit, they seem like great cheap autoX projects.

Thanks. There were more C's at Treffen than most folks had ever seen in one place last year, due to Corrado Rush. Nearly all of them are kept tasteful, but there were a few that made me wonder what the owners were thinking. It's not one of the worst, but I don't care for the 2 tone red and grey of the one right next to me. I've seen Altezzas on a Corrado, and it's just oh so wrong. I've never seen a body kit that I liked on one. I bought mine because on my way to work there used to be one parked on the street most days, I'd drive past that car and always think about how good it looked just sitting still.

I'm really happy with how the wheels look on my car. Funny thing is that I bought them from a friend who had them on his 1994 Dragon Green Corrado SLC. It bugs him that he never got compliments on them, but I frequenly do. I think it's the silver body color that makes them go better together.

Here's a bunch of videos of other cars, including racing Sciroccos: http://eurotuned.com/vw/Multimedia.HTM

Me neither. The corrado in stock form with tasteful wheels is about as good as compact cars get.

I think the world would be better if we posted corrado pics in here:

I don't know that it'll make the world a better place, but I'll participate by taking a pic from my porch:

Too bad I don't have access to this "Supercar" book that's at my parents' place: there's a Golf equipped with a rear-engined Porsche flat 6 and hydraulic system to raise the tail to access it.
