I'm heading to Manhattan where I have one on reserve from Toys 'R' Us. A little reward for quitting smoking non-tobacco organic materials that are commonly available in Canada ;-) I think I will get RidgeRacer to go along with it, but I also have my eye on Wipeout. The only problem is: how will I find time to study for finals with access to a PSP?
Actually this will be a grand re-entrance into the world of video games for me. I was a huge video game player when I was younger - I had them all (not necissarily @ the same time though), Sega MasterSystem, NES, Genesis, SNES, Gameboy, Turbo Express, 3DO, and finally a Playstation, which was my last game system. I played that bad-boy so much that I almost failed high-school ;-) As soon as I sold it to my buddy my marks went through the roof.
I just hope that I am mature enough now to be able to have a bit of restraint when it comes to playing video games. Actually I have had a bit of practice before the soon to some PSP. I bought a GameboySP last year to keep me busy on a long flight from Toronto to Viennna. I was in controll the whole time.... Although I did dream about Metroid each night when I played the game during the day.
So, is anyone else getting one this Thursday?

Is there anyway we can turn this thread into a 17 page PSP vs. DS debate? That would be awesome!

At my store, those who pay in full get theirs before those that don't.

Our store will issue them even if they come in early.
They'll call as soon as the shipment comes in so the stragglers will clog the store on the release date in hopes to get an unclaimed one.

I wish I had time to actually sit down and play the darn thing... So as for me I am going to wait to purchase one. Furthermore I am kind of weary of the battery life.

It looks awesome, but I don't think I have enough opportunities to use one to warrant buying it. Perhaps If i were commuting to the city daily, but I don't think I will be.

When compared to the rather slick PSP GUI the Gizmondo looks like your typical M$ crap, of which the console is based on. Oh, and there was only one game on show. What a glorious waste of time.
They sold a whooping 800 in the first week of sales.

Yeah, that doesn't help how soon I will get it any. The only reason i did that was to make the price seem like less when I pick it up . Kinda like layaway. I have the money to pay full, then and now... but the blow to the wallet seems slightly softened by having $120 of $300 already paid for. Does that make since to anyone besides me? maybe I'm just crazy. (but thats the way, uh huh uh huh, I like it!)

It feels klunky and looks like some no-name brand. It really needed a design that says "I'm fabulous". But the interface really sucked.
NOT BAD? The DS sold 87,000 in 2 days.

There's cheaper ways to get LCDs. Lilliput makes 7" touchscreen VGA LCDs for a few hundred bucks. probably less on eBay. And then you don't have to worry about how to control it.

I am not sure what number I am at Toys 'R' Us (Times Square), but they assured me that I will get one. They even took my creadit card number and whatnot. I would assume that the flagship Toys 'R' Us would be getting a large amount of units.
P.S. Going to Manhattan to get a PSP (I live in Canada) reminds me when I pursuaded my folks to take me to Manhattan for the North American debut of StreetFigher 2 for SNES back in teh early 90's at FAO Schwartz. Awesome. Manhattan is Awesome.

Best Buy's sunday add says on the front page that they will get (at least) 20 per location, but inside the ad it says (at least) 40.
Sidenote: I got bored... Countdown!

I read somewhere that Nokia sold 5,000 of their first generation N-Gage.
Pretty funny considering the advertising blitz they ran.
EDIT: They sold less than 5,000 in the first week.

Are Mac users going to be able to rip movies onto memory sticks for use on the PSP?
What would you need? A memory stick reader and some 3rd party software?
Anyone have a link?

You will need either e memory-stick reader - with a Duo adapter. Or a USB cable. On teh software side, all us Mac user's need is Quicktime.

I'd probably have bought one if I had found a place that let me preorder it without buying a $400+ bundle. As it is, I may stop by TRU on my way to work Thursday just to see if they've got any that aren't spoken for, otherwise I'll probably wait to get one as a gift or something.
