I just bought the new macbook pro and I need to transfer files from my old G4 to my pro. I was going to use Migration Assistant but it says I need to connect my two computers with a firewire cable. I already have a 4-pin to 6-pin. The 6-pin fits in my G4, but neither the 6 nor the 4 pin fit in my macbook pro firewire port. Can anyone tell me what I need?

The new MacBook Pro uses Firewire 800. You'll need a 9-pin Firewire 800 cable to 6-pin Firewire 400 cable.

Is that something I can buy in any computer store or do I have to get it through Apple?

You can get it pretty much everywhere.

Newegg has one for $16.

There are some really cheap ones on this page (scroll down to where it says 9 - 6 pin):

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
