I've been experiencing this rather weird problem when d/l from HL servers. (MacGaming Clan e.t.c) The d/l starts at high speeds (for a 56k), like 5.5k/sec and then it suddenly it freezes, the hard drive makes a noise and it resumes somewhere in the region of 4.5k/sec... After about 10secs the same thing happens and it resumes at 3k/sec or something until it goes down to about 1k/sec... If I stop the d/l and resume it again the procedure is repeated
I am on a Yikes G4/400, OS 8.6, the HD is defragmented, using HL client 1.7.2. Any ideas on why this is hapenning? I find it extremely irritating. Overall it's a TIME WASTE

What you could do is try running Hotline 1.2.3 client to see if things go smoothly. Search for it at http://ftpsearch.lycos.com by typing in something like "hotline client 123" into the search engine.

Hotline has a screwy k/sec calculator. Hence the reason that when you resume a download, it usually goes really fast for a few seconds then drops.

If the same thing is happening when you begin a transfer, then it might just be the server. Does that happen with all the servers you go to? Try going to hltracker.com and downloading something there, see if it happens there.

If it doesn't, then it's something to do with the server's connections or your connection to your ISP (neither of which you can help).
