Went to my local apple store today and ordered a 60g ipod photo (on the basis of web pictures only as the store had nothing in stock, no surprise there, it always takes a while to reach us in Australia) -promised delivery date mid November, but this may well blow out if there's a strong demand in the US market.

Mine arrived last night at the FedEx building in the town where I live. Unfortunately it won't get delivered until Monday morning.
I can't wait until Monday.
I am bummed though because the iPod Photo is just a hair too big for the JBL On Stage (according to Apple). I ordered one of those and now have to send it back.

60 Gb engraved ordered 11:17 am PST on Tues. 26th, shipped 10/30, expected arrival 11/4 with expedited 2-day shipping.

Interestingly, it's shipping from SHANGHAI, CN, whereas my past orders (ipods, ibooks, powerbooks) have shipped from Taiwan. Looks like a new manufacturing source.

Maybe it's where engraved ones are coming from? Mine's engraved and also shipping from Shanghai.

I sure hope it arrives before the 4th, because I'm leaving that day for 10 days! I don't get how shipping on the 30th for a delivery date of the 4th makes it 2-day shipping. Oh well, something to look forward to after I get back.

Is the battery life as good as expected? What's the usable size of a 60, 56 or so?
I was very, very inclined to getting one but a) the S/O's birthday is tomorrow and I've already gotten her the Mini. And I sold my 3G iPod in September after winning a 4G 40 in a lucky draw.
Still, if I can find a buyer for the current one iPod ...

Congrats! First Australian iPod Photo sighting.

My first day order for a non-engraved 60GB iPod Photo has NOT shipped yet. Guess getting engraving was a good move on your part!

(Or maybe Adelaide is closer to Shanghai or wherever they're shipping from. I would've thought Sydney or Melbourne would get them quicker, but who knows.)

Did yours ship directly from Apple Australia? How did you receive it so quickly if you said yours hadn't shipped a couple of days ago? What was the total delivery time and where did it ship from?

Mine hasn't arrived yet - but it only shipped 3 days ago so I haven't been expecting it...

Hope yours arrives today mate!

The address on the packing box is Apple Computer Australia in Frenchs Forest, Sydney. I'm in Sydney so that probably explains why the courier company got mine to me quicker even though your shipping notification came through earlier - yours had to go interstate.

I think the way it works is that they ship from source (Shanghai?) to the local HQ in Sydney using their internal transport system, then dispatch them via independent couriers to Australian residences. The shipping notification email is probably generated when they are dispatched locally.

My shipping notification came overnight so I received the email at breakfast, then the package itself arrived in the afternoon. Allowing 2 days for interstate transport, yours should come by this afternoon at the latest.

It's worth waiting for! It's brilliant - even better than I thought from just reading about it on the net (the concept that started this topic).

Since it's an Australian iPod, here's an Australian picture on it. You probably know where it is as it's just up the road from you. (You know how the Rock changes colour as the sun sets - I have several photos in series showing different colours and the way the iPod can rapidly flick between them is brilliant!)

Just phoned my contact and checked - mine is coming from overseas and should be here early next week. Forgot to ask why but I'd say it's either because it was a staff order (nice discount thankyou!) or because I had it engraved.

Gives me time to get my iPhoto in order - currently a huge mess and would cause a massive wait during the first sync...

Yeah, I've got an engraved Photo iPod coming to Melbourne - ETA is also next week.

From all reports, it's currently on a slow boat from Singapore.

TNT should have delivered mine yesterday, but they LOST IT.

It arrived in the Manchester TNT Depot yesterday morning at 8:15am and it has not been seen since.

I called at 4pm last night and they were still looking for it.

I wonder how long it is going to take to get a replacement!!

Well it now looks like my iPod Photo 60GB has been stolen by TNT staff.
It arrived in the Manchester depot on Weds morning and has disappeared.
They have alerted their security team, but don't expect it to turn up now.
I now have to wait for TNT and Apple to investigate and agree to send another one.
I presume this will mean another 2 week wait while it ships from China again.

Disgraceful.

Yes, it is disgraceful. I've heard of people in Birmingham being mugged because of their white headphones, but courier staff stealing packages - what is the country coming to? (Speaking as someone who is half-English and who shows how much he likes England by living in Australia!)

Are they in the stores yet? If I were you, I would ask Apple for immediate replacement and if they cannot provide one, to cancel the order forthwith and refund the purchase price.

The consumer protection laws in the UK are very strong and if Apple gave any cause for complaint they could come down upon them like a ton of bricks. Also, one whiff of a scandal over their precious iPod sales and Apple would do anything to shut you up. Thus, mention your dissatisfaction and penchant for writing letters to the Times...

One final resort is your credit card company. If Apple has not fulfilled the terms of the contract by delivering a product to you in the time specified, they are not entitled to the payment. Have the charge refunded and buy it from a store.

Good luck! Hope you get one soon.

After purchasing an ipod photo the day after they came out, i returned it today to pick up a U2 ipod. I must say the U2 ipod is cool, in a sense that not a lot of people will buy them, but once you have the color screen there is no going back. The normal ipod screen looks horrid in comparison. Other than that, the U2 ipod is cool, and I guess i'll keep it a while. Just waiting for The Collection to arrive on iTMS. The person at the apple store says that since the album was moved up, we could expect to see it on the store as soon as next week some time. Who knows.

I ordered an engraved Photo 60 a week ago Saturday--in other words, may as well have been Monday--and got it on Friday. 4 business days after the order was processed--all the way from Shanghai to the US, in a town with no airport. Not bad--much less than the stated 1-to-2-weeks-plus-shipping, especially considering I choose the free "ground" shipping. (And I love the iPod! My review.)

Someone at iPodLounge got their Photo 60 from Shanghai to US--same free "ground" shipping--in less than 36 hours!

Mine arrived in Canberra on Saturday - on schedule - and I'm delighted with it.

The photo function works much better than I thought it would (I really wanted the 60g memory rather than the photo function) and the colour screen is great. Might be time to shed some of my other ipods....

Excellent! More Australian iPod Photos arriving.

Now you just have to maintain the pretense: I tell everyone that Australian 'pods come with a crocodile skin belt-clip... and that we go around pulling out our capacious 60GB iPods in front of 4GB iPod Minis and saying, "That's not an iPod, *this* is an iPod!"

Good one, though I always wondered why it was throw a shrimp on the barbie and not throw a prawn on the barbie. Anyway, just my 60 today. Love it.
