It's Japanese. Strange.

You didn't accidentally switch languages preferences did you? Does it still do that after you log out and back in?

Umm no. It's time people stop using the term Asian to mean ONLY people/things from the far far east (Orient). I'm Asian but not from China, Japan, Korea, etc.

Have you tried logging into another account and seeing if it still happens? That will give you a clue if it's system-wide or a problem with your account.

Oriental (as opposed to occidental) is actually the correct term, although not very specific.

Oriental is anyone to the east of the Greenwich Meridian. This would imply that austrians are orientals which as true as it is ridiculous.

Asian, on the other hand, comprises anyone (and/or anything) to the east of the Ural Mountains. Russians are orientals (as japanese are).

So, technically speaking, the Japanese katakana text (which reads "disuku yutiriti", Disk Utility) is both oriental an Asian.

When speaking about cultures or cosmovisions, as the boundaries are loose, so are the precision of the term used. There is a lot of occidental cultural manifestations in Asian nations. I could say that Shinto is an oriental religion.

Y no entienden nada... ¡y cómo se divierten!...
