'DVD Ripper' only support WAV/FLAC/AIFF up to 256 or 512k, rather than the 1.5mbps that the DTS track on the disc offers.

Are there any other options, hopefully open source, that would allow me to extract to lossless?

Cheers.

Decrypt the disk first then eac3to can do the transcoding you're after.

Lateralus,

Check out mreadman's method over here. I'm just trying it now - will report back after lunch with the results.

Edit: OSex does a great job of exporting the .AC3 files, but I can't extract the SourceForge download of mAC3dec - I keep getting the following error:

Seems like we're not the only ones. Try the 1.6.1 release - it comes with a .zip file which did extract, at least for me:

Download mAC3dec from SourceForge.net

Edit: Dammit indeed!

You're having trouble with the 1.6.3 file because it includes a .sit step, which the built-in archive utility can't handle. Use Stuffit Expander or The Unarchiver to expand the 1.6.3 file.

Thanks. I just reformatted, so it turns out I didn't have Stuffit Expander installed. I do now.

That being said, install it if you don't, and use the latest release of bd4go from here. Unfortunately it only seems to let you open one file at a time (dragging to the Dock is quicker than opening files one-by-one withing bd4go), but it works! Many a time archive.org has saved me.

Thanks Gallagher!

All done. AC3 6ch > 0Sex > mAC3dec > 2ch AIFF.

I'm wondering though if I should have extracted the 2ch AC3 instead? I thought the bit rate was rather appalling though - 192kish and figured I'd get a better result from the much meatier 6ch.

Good question - I can't give you an answer. What I do know is that whatever software I was using to do this years ago on Windows gave me an option to demux 5.1 down to a stereo mix (0Sex does as well apparently), so I always went for that, unless PCM stereo was an option.
