We'd like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers, in the US as well as overseas, a safe and pleasant holiday season. We've updated our forum index page accordingly, and we hope it puts you in the holiday spirit as well.

Best wishes,
MacNN Staff

I like it, but isn't it a bit late in the season for such a change (Christmas Eve). I'll bet you updated the forum index then ran out to do allof your christmas shopping too!

I made the green a bit less neon; it was way too bright, I agree. Should be much better now.

As for being late: as you can see, there are people who simply don't like it at all (which is why I only updated the main forum index, and not everything else as well), so we weren't planning on keeping it up that long anyway. Just the week of Christmas.

As Groverat reminded us over at AI, "Give those relatives an extra hug this year, a lot of people were left without being able to say goodbye."

Merry Christmas to all of you.

So this is Xmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Xmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Xmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let's stop all the fight

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear

And so this is Xmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Xmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young

A very Merry Xmas
And a happy New Year
Let's hope it's a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now

Happy Xmas

Neither can I, except when it comes to not tolerating intolerants.

Think about it.

So you can't tolerate intolerance, but you make an exception with intolerants?

Sorta like hating cotton but not sheep... (bad analogy, but hey, its 9 am, I haven't slept yet, and my body is made up of 86% beer right now).

Fair enough

Yep.

It's sorta like - I take everyone as I find them, and judge them not as what they are, but what their actions provide. Thought it was quite clear, but...

Sorry, but my first post was loony bait. I am not particularly bothered by the whole 'holiday' thing, but it can bring out some real psycho religious nuts. I am sorry, but I hate what religion has done to this world. Why is there only one day in the year that is supposedly devoted to peace and goodwill to all men? Is it too much to ask that we're all happy living together 24/7?

In this growing climate of understanding the 'other side', and the branding of 'Terrorists' and the like, I should love to see us for once get along with each other. It's sad, and it ain't gonna happen.

There's a growing culture of non religion in the west, and that is what makes us different from the less consumerised countries. A huge majority of people I grew up with and most of my friends wouldn't be seen at a church, mosque, or whatever - simply because our values are not covered by religions today (okay, possibly Thelemism, but hey). The new gods are not looking to be worshipped at an alter, but at the supermarket and the television set.

Yes, so maybe consumerisation is not the answer, certainly not for me. However, christmas now has changed so much into that sort undenominational festival, into such a global cash fest, that we have made the original biblical definition into a cartoon into which an excuse for spending maoney. Let alone the meaning of the original druid festival on which it was based. Christianity killed the original festival n order to spread Christinanity, and coca cola and MacDOnalds has killed Christmas to get money.

I'm not particularly upset at any one religion here, all are pretty much guilty of complacence in the modern world. The reason religion was invented was sort of like psychotherapy - for when people needed guidance in times of crisis. However now, it just lies back and takes a pretty lacadasical approach to guidance - in times when people need it most. Those who proactively use religion is for what the religions teachings are against.

I am not religious as I think I can cope well enough without psychotherapy, but religion to most who still regularly worship has become more of a chore, or a longing to belong, than the guidance and the meditation that they should provide.

My bag is this, it's bad enough 'worshipping' things that do exist, why waste your life worshipping things that don't.

Ho hum.

(this is an ill thought out, unclear and pretty poor ramble, sorry, but I think you get the idea.)

P.S. Guess how I got the name Dogma.

Well, I know one reason Dogma stuck was due to an incident one night where you consumde a little too much alcohol, and well... maybe you couldn't see properly

The other reason I'm sure is more on topic... hehee.

I agree with everything you said... organised religion is absolute shit. I'm a Roman Catholic technically, but I despise the Catholic Church itself; the 'corporation' (may as well be) which owns its own country...

I won't say any more, because I agree with you. I'm gonna leave you with a song instead.

Nine Inch Nails - Heresy
He sewed his eyes shut, because he is afraid to see
He tries to tell me, what I put inside of me
He's got the answers, to ease my curiosity
He dreamed a God up, and called it Christianity

God is dead
And no one cares
If there is a Hell
I'll see you there

He flexed his muscles, to keep his flock of sheep in line
He made a virus, that would kill off all the swine
His perfect kingdom, of killing, suffering and pain
Demands devotion, atrocities done in His name

God is dead
And no one cares
If there is a Hell
I'll see you there

Your God is dead
And no one cares
If there is a Hell
I'll see you there

God is dead
And no one cares
If there is a Hell
I'll see you there (your God is dead)
God is dead (and no one cares)
And no one cares (drowning in his own hypocrisy)
If there is a hell
I'll see you
I don't necessarily agree with it, or like the tone of it (but I don't necessarily dislike it) - but it is thought inspiring.

I have my own beliefs; I don't need to be spoonfed like a mindless drone.

...like the mindless drones they want us to be.

I always liked that song.

Anyhoo, yeah, the drunken night (and not so hot girlie) is one reason for the Dogma tag, but again, I do regularly get all political and stuff on people and maybe take it all a bit too seriously.

Ach well.

Cheers folk, just off to do some pointless drinking and fumbling without my glasses on.
