Long story short, I *really* want to watch hulu from my Apple TV with boxee. But I’m from Europe.
The good news is that boxee offers a HTTP-Proxy option and various people outside the US have gotten it to work already. The bad news is that it is ####ing impossible to find a proxy server in the US that offers half way decent speed.
I actually wouldn’t even mind paying for one, but since boxee doesn’t seem to support authenticated HTTP proxies that wouldn’t work either.
So I’ve actually thought of buying a cheap VPS in the USA for the sole purpose of running my own HTTP proxy to watch hulu.
In theory I could set up a public/open proxy there and drop all connections but the one from my own IP to make sure no one else is (ab)using it. Right?
That should be plenty fast (my home connection doesn’t do more than 6 mbit anyway) and the traffic it produces is negligible for a paid server (maybe 10-15 GB a month tops).

Yup.
If they can't be arsed to let you have it legally, then get it elsewhere.
(Doof still waiting for seasons 5+ of NYPD Blue to come out on DVD)

Can you set [TV BT Site] to subscribe to TV Shows or do you have to download each episode manually?

Depends on whether you're into regular expressions or not.

Yeah, I’m aware of the Bittorrent workarounds but I’d still like to get hulu to work somehow. Hotspotshield is not an option as it won’t run on the Apple TV, unfortunately. And it’s way slow.
I heard someone had success with installing squid on Amazon’s EC2 and using that as a HTTP proxy. That should be cheaper than a VPS while delivering higher performance. Guess that’ll be my upcoming weekend project.

I watched the first season of Bones on Hulu, then had to rent the second. So far, I have found that most of the third has been pulled from Hulu, so back to one of those two sites.

try zattoo.com. It's got the opposite geographical restriction and should work well for you.

Yeah, I’ve heard of Zattoo.
Zattoo is not yet available in Austria. Listed below are the 237 channels Zattoo currently offers where we are available.
I’ve had no success with the EC2/Squid thing so far. The proxy thing works fine and http://releasegeo.hulu.com/geoCheck validates but the Flash script itself is being sneaky and deliberately ignores all proxy settings.
I have little snitch running — if I allow the script to bypass the proxy, the geo check locks me out. When the connection is denied via little snitch the video just won’t play.
So the next plan is a VPN between the ATV and the EC2 instance so it can’t just ignore the proxy. I suspect that’s also why hotspotshield is the only working solution so far.
Yes, that’s way more trouble than it is worth but whatever.
