Both private and for work, aliases don't count in the poll!
I personally have 3 gmail accounts (two of which are on google apps), two plain-vanilla imap accounts and a .mac address.
Why? I don't even know. Two would be enough.

Weird I thought I'd be out in the stupidly large tail end of the bell curve but I find you all have too many accounts as well.
I run a couple of small businesses so I collect e-mail addresses. I also help run the Peugeot owners club so I got a couple of adrresses there too!
Seven in total

I think it's 8. Maybe 9. I have some (3?) that are specifically for using for "please provide contact information" purposes, and I check them maybe monthly. Two different school addresses, Yahoo!, GMail, my ISP, and my web site. Yeah, that's probably 9.
Oh wait! I have one through MacNN! So 10. At least 10..

One gmail, one work.
Accessing the gmail account from Outlook, Mail on the Touch and Mail on the Mac has turned out to be more trouble than its worth - hopefully MobileMe will help.

Private and work tend to be separate so there's one reason.

I have 5 though one I've not used in one eons - its a hotmail account.
I have my own domain so I created an email account that is used for filing out forms and such, so that any spam from those forms gets directed to that account.
My main personal account on that domain. It was going to replace my .mac account but I've opted to keep the .mac especially in light of the new features.
I also have my work email address.
The advantage of having a domain and control over your email is that you can create accounts as you need them, like having a spam catch all account that is used for the intarweb. Thus my personal email account has less issues with spam then if I only had one single email address.

I just field work-related gmails (skim read, label "work", archive) and if I don't wanna hear from someone again the filter is my friend. I like to be able to see the e-mail situation comprehensively in one window.
Course, sometimes I create e-mails to re-register at a forum but that doesn't count.

5 accounts. Two for work, one for play, one for mailing lists, one for nostalgia reasons. Oh, and a sixth if you count mobile numbers as an email account.

Another reason to have more than 1 address is not only a work email, but if you have multiple jobs.
I have gmail, yahoo, and school accounts, but I also have one from the law office I work at, one from Arrow Electronics, and one from another job I still consult for.

I own a domain (everything@domain goes to me), plus another Gmail account for my crackberry, plus my work account (which has several aliases).
