Well many musicians have cast their vote as to who theyre backing ...Republican or Democrats.

Backing the Dems:
Springsteen, R.E.M., Pearl Jam, John Cougar Mellencampetc...
dont know about you guys, but Springsteen is my all time favorite artist. R.E.M. is one of the greatest American Bands in my opinion, and Pearl Jam...well....it's Pearl Jam !!! Mellencamp...heartland rock at it's finest.

Backing the Repubs:
Johnny Ramone, Kid Rock, Ted Nugent , Christian artist Michael W. Smith and a host of country artists.

I'm assuming Ramone was part of the Ramones, Kid Rock is a has been. MW Smith...who ? and country artists...... nuff said

it's so cool to see the music i like, the stars i admire(Springsteen, R.E.M, Pearl jam) and the companies i support(Apple) all have similar political views as myself(Democratic). and the opponents(Republicans) basically have supporters whom i dont really care all that much about(country artists)

hehe... like minds think alike i guess.

"He was a rebel in a rebel's world, though. Johnny Ramone was a fiercely Republican-voting, NRA-supporting musician in a milieu that is remarkable for its embrace of all things left.

Johnny went worldwide public with his partisanship in 2002, when the Ramones were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the microphone to give props to the people who made it all possible, he offered his own version of a Michael Moore moment.

"God bless President Bush, and God bless America," he said, clad in his trademark T-shirt, ripped blue jeans and leather jacket."

Alice Cooper, it seems.

To me it doesn't matter who the musicians vote for as long as their music is good.

Springstein is also a Has been. IMO.

I use a Mac not because of Apple's political affiliation (more likes Steve Jobs' affilitaion) but I use it because they make a Killer product. If people used products or listened to music because of the persons/companies political affiliation their would be very few products being used by both side.

I believe Michael Dell is a repubilican But I wouldn't use a Dell just because he is a republican.

Nailed it.

I think this sort of fandom is just a way of occupying yourself. Using it as idol-dom is foolish.

After all, we should remember that Bono of U2 worked closely with Jesse Helms, Republican, and alternately that Perry Ferrel (Jane's Addiction and Porno for Pyros) talked about Helms in concert before opening a song, singing "some people need to die" - Interestingly enough, Helms and Ferrel both worked on the problem of slavery in the Sudan in 2002:

"We started to get support from [former Secretary of State] Madeleine Albright and [Senator] Jesse Helms. He had us out to testify three times before different hearings," Vogel said. Entertainers also became interested. Rock singer Perry Farrell of Jane's Addiction eventually went on a trip in which 2,300 slaves were redeemed in Sudan.

So who knows, politics has been called celebrity for the ugly.

No, he said he's voting for Rock 'n Roll. He said politics is not rock 'n roll. It was a criticism of Stipe and Bono and the bunch not an endorsement of the Republicans.

Well then i guess to you the Beatles, Dylan and The Rolling Stones are has beens as well.

We admire certain artists because of their character, which is protrayed in their 'art'..... which isnt the easiest thing to pull off. We are bombarded with a lot of rubbish in the media....everything from N'Sync n Britney to reality telivision and political/warmongering lies. Yet the artists that make contributions to culture tend to breach the boundaries of time...by merely telling it how it is, and it just seems fitting that people 'see' this in their 'art' and recognize it, appreciate it and relate to it.When that happens, they become legends.

I am not suggesting that people sway their opinions because the artists they love have spoken out. But it is something to consider...after all....whos to say there's anything wrong/right in voicing your opinion.

Chances are that when you relate to the music, you relate to the ideals portrayed in the music by the artist, and when it just so happens that these people have the same political affiliations you do.... it just help you recognize who they are....and maybe who you are, more clearly.

For me.... it's definately clearer. The artists i love...whom i relate to, say a lot about the things that mean a lot to me in their songs, and it's not a surprise that they have the same political affiliations i do. i love Apple, not just because of the physical products they make, but because of the 'love' that went into making them. i'm glad to know that the person who leads Apple has the same affiliations as i do. As opposed to Bill Gates and Michael dell who quite clearly have the same agenda as the Republicans.

Just thought it was odd that many of us have a lot of these same things in commom , taste in music..... taste in computers.... and politics... which hardly have anything in common between themselves.

Cheers.
