Apple today briefly added extra build-to-order options to the lower-end version of the Retina MacBook Pro before removing them, according to MacRumors. The system has typically been restricted to a 2.3GHz Core i7 processor and a 256GB SSD, the only upgrade option being a bump from 8 to 16GB of RAM. For a short time, though, Apple suddenly made a full range of upgrades available on its online store, namely processor speeds up to 2.7GHz, and/or up to 768GB of SSD space.

The company may be having trouble with the online store, since the extra MacBook Pro options are not the only items to have vanished. A Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter went on sale this morning, but is no longer available. This may suggest that in both cases, Apple posted content prematurely and/or unintentionally.
