In honor of this thread, I have decided to conduct this poll.

Please post what degree(s) that you have. I know some of you probably have double BS/BA or whatever, but this purpose, it counts as one BS/BA degree.

You may choose multiple selections only if you have more than one graduate level degree. For example, a person with a BS + MS + JD, then only selected the MS + JD option.
If you have a BS and a MS, then please just post MS. If you have a high school education and a BS, then please post the BS and so on.

Curious to see how educated MacNNers are.

One semester away from a bachelors. Assuming I'm able to pass the 8AM class I have coming up next semester. Which isn't guaranteed.

not in your poll, but i did get an associates degree in art & architecture. i came close to getting a couple of bachelor degrees but life took so many turns over 15 years ago and the need to finish wasn't there.

i'm happily making pretty darn good money.

i do attend anywhere between 6 and 8 weeks of various certification/training/continuing education classes each year though to keep current in my chosen field.

Working on my Masters. I didn't put it down since the Poll stated "degree's you HAVE".

Darn it. I didn't read the directions. Sorry. I selected both BS and HS.

Sometimes I'm bad about reading directions, until after I answer the question. This actually happened to me on a mid-term.

I was late for the test because of horrible traffic, so when I got in class I grabbed the exam and jumped right into answering the questions. When I felt I was caught up and I had plenty of time before the time limit, I finally read the directions. The instructor was very specific, "Do not write more than the allotted space provided". It was a 30 question essay exam, and I had answered some of my questions on the back side. CRAP. I had to go back and rewrite many of my answers to fit in the space provided.

As residentEvil stated, you missed "Associates" degree on your poll.

Associates Degree in Drafting. But I hold two Journeyman's Cards for Aero./Auto. Experimental Engineering Test Technician/Mechanic and Machine Repair/Machinist.

I voted for my HS diploma and my already conferred BS, but by this time next year I'll be preparing for graduation and conferring of a second BS and a Masters in occupational therapy.

Plus I have two AASs as well.

Sometimes. My masters is a professional degree-it is the minimum requirement to practice in my field. As such, it's not "just paper," but evidence that I've completed the necessary requirements to get started in practice. A degree CAN be "just paper" if the student wants it to be, but it can also be much, much more.

I had the better part a of bachelors in Electronic Imaging, but I opted to make more money out of the gate.

Time will tell if this was a wise decision, that said I enjoy working outside far more than sitting at a desk staring at a screen.

Not to mention when it comes time for my own house I won't be paying a contractor for anything....and seeing my sis is an architect I won't be breaking the bank with that, either.

Architect and builder [meant as generic term for people who do stuff with their hands and build things, since I don’t know what your precise job is] in the same immediate family = WIN.

I dropped out of college after one semester. My wife dropped out of high school due to a personal tragedy, and got her GED years later.

What's ironic is that almost all of my friends have multiple degrees, masters degrees, etc... yet we both make more money then just about all of them. God bless America.

My sig is 1 pixel too big.

My dad is a 30+ year Contractor, I'm a Master Carpenter soon to be a Contractor and my sis graduated from Roger Williams University, second rated school in the country for Architecture.

In structured trades, earning the "master" title is at least as difficult as earning a graduate degree. Probably more so because a tradesman has to actually produce, rather than simply discuss and theorize about it. The apprentice-journeyman-master system is still the best way to manage and develop skilled people who perform the absolutely essential trades. The only problem I've ever had with the system is that one sometimes has to deal with a group of masters that isn't interested in adding another apprentice or journeyman into the market...the prospect has to find a different area to try to find a master in.

Teaching another person how do to things that have become second-nature to you is very tricky, I'm finding this out over the past few years. It's hard for me to take time out to explain when I have the extreme urge to do whatever task is in question myself.

We have an apprentice-like person working for us, he has his Bachelors and isn't really looking to become a Master Carpenter but he has gone up the ladder of responsibility over the years. At first my father would be the trainer but more and more I'm the go-to guy on the jobsite.

It's very difficult to translate something that is done with hands into words. Best way is show how you do it and let the person learn BY doing. I also draw lots of pictures, since I've noticed my abstract hand motions only work on people who already know what's going on.

You betcha! It's the hardest thing to teach a technical school instructor, since the best ones come there with lots of experience. Once you are so good that people say "you should teach" you may actually be too set in your ways. But those who can figure out how to get their experience out of their heads ant into the heads of their trainees are golden. It sounds like you're getting there yourself. It's a hard job to master, but it's worth it.
