What do you mean "rest on the Powerbook?" If you want any app to start on an external display, move the little title bar in the monitor arrangement section of the Displays preferences to the external display, making it the main display.
I was puzzeled to understand how to start an application on external monitor. I intutively dragged the VPC window to external monitor and understood the meaning of 'extended monitor'.
