Hello I was messing around with the permission settings on my Home folder and now things on my desktop have disappeared but I am sure they are still there because when I do a global search they are found to be on the desktop. But they aren't showing. In addition when I try to drag something to the desktop I get a pop-up message saying the desktop can't be modified.

I feel stuipd but how can I restore to the original permission setings? I promise I won't mess with them again.

THank you.

try this.
get info on the desktop folder in your home folder.

ownership and permission
you can [read & write]

details
owner [your username]
access [read & write]

group [your username]
access [read & write]

others [read access]

reply if that does not fix it.
