I just bought a Mac Pro today.

The folks at the Apple Store gave me a special $30 off
deal on the .MAC software citing it was great
for backing up my entire system on an external drive or DVD.

Is this reliable software that I can back up my entire
Mac so in the case of hard drive failure or similar I can
do a total restore back to original settings?

....or should I return this software?

PS: Concerning iWeb....

Suppose I don't want to publish my web creation on the
Mac website. Can I create a webpage and transfer it to my
own server of choice? In other words, can it be saved as a
standard .HTML file and then uploaded to the site of my choosing?

No, Apple Backup can not do a complete backup of your drive. It is a decent backup application to do incremental backups of your user files though.

Yes, iWeb can export to disk and you can upload to whatever server you want to (and have access).

There are tons of backup applications out there that are free or cheap and have many features not in the .mac Backup app. Do a search of this forum for "backup" and you'll find a bunch of threads recommending various apps.
