Hey guys. I just bought a new MacBook Pro. Barely a month old at this point. And it, of course, has iLife06 on it. Now iLife08 is out and shipping free with new Macs.

I don't suppose there's anything I can do to get my system updated with it freely (and legally)?

Where's you find that? Not on the page at Apple that Art Vandelay linked to in my thread (above).

Oh crap, I'm wrong:
The software upgrade is now available to customers in Canada and the United States for $10 US, but there are two main conditions: the computer must have been purchased on or after August 7th, 2007, and only model numbers officially listed by Apple are eligible.
Sorry. Frankly, I think this policy is extremely stingy. Bad Apple! Nickel'n'diming recent customers?

Especially when they write it to make it sound as if they are being generous, when in fact they are simply saying (as usual) that from the time of the announcement forward, everyone gets the new product, but some people have to pay for it.

I remember when I bought my first G4 Powerbook, they had the program extended some...I think it was the first few weeks and I made the jump from Jag to Panther for a fraction of the price.
I wonder if its because it is a different type of software or they changed the policy.

It does seem lame though, a friend of mine bought his new MacBook only a week ago, I don't know if anyone in that spot should have to pay full price for the new software.
Who reads this???
