in the memory control panel it has disk cache, what exactly does it do, and right now by default it is off. what good or bad would it do to turn it on? my B&W G3 has 128mb or physical ram and 129VM

Turn it 'on' and set it to 8192K.

It's an access/command cache, sorta, put simply. Improves peformance.
