By the way, the 15-inch PowerBook will be updated in about a month.

Apparently, they were having problems keeping the machine cool.

I'm not sure... I'm still hearing May for a new 15", and with the delays in the 17" models, might not see them until June. :/ Oh well, I'll be without a Mac for a few months. :/

Interesting, any more detailed info available?
I am currently trying to decide between a 12" or a 15 Ti, a new 15 Alu would be great!

From the MacNN article
"So far they only have shipped one unit, probably getting one unit out to each Apple Specialist for display purposes."
That's not too encouraging to me. I was hoping they'd be shipping in volumne by now. Perhaps I read it wrong. It's progress though!

Well judging my how much my fan runs in my 1GHZ/SD their/I'm having trouble keeping it cool too.

Sean, sticking your neck out with these predictions in such a matter of fact way has no upside and lots of downside. Remember the "THERE WILL BE NO UPDATE TO THE POWERBOOKS UNTIL SUMMER" and then of course the 17 and 12". But, its just some friendly advice.

I can't wait and neither I'm sure can anyone else reading this post until we have the LARGEST FLIPPIN LAPTOP IN THE WORLD!!! Well screen that is, nothing will beat the old Compaq suitcase.

Sour grapes and Jealousy? While the rest of us are enjoying our 17" Powerbooks, Sean will be sitting in the corner mumbling about how much better his 15" will be...

Seriously though, there is no good reason for his post.

I went into the local Mac store today to play around with the 12" PB they had there. Never seen one in the flesh so to speak and was curious. Gave me an idea of what to expect from the 17". Really nice machine I have to say. Made me want my PB that much more...hehe. Sigh, back to waiting...

I predict nobody is going to b*tch and complain about their 17". I predict everyone that takes one into a public place, on a plane, etc. is going to generate awwwwhhhs and oooohhhhs that would make anyone with a dell or IBM purple with envy!

I personally will enjoy grabbing hold of the edge of that screen and lifting it up to witness 17 inches of Mac OSX aqua perfection.

This sh*t goes to your head quick.

No doubt...I swear one of the first things I'm gonna do is go up to every one of my friends that are hatin' on me for going to the Mac-side, get 'em in a dark room, and turn my 17" PB and watch them try to refrain from being "wowed" by the backlit keyboard...just ain't gonna happen

And 10 minutes later you'll be on here posting some smack about Apple because your R, Q, and L keys don't light up.

Hey how wierd would that be if all the lights burned out (I know this is technical bs---but play along) and only:

M S F T lit up or..
D E L L or..
I B M or..

Spooky. But, I would love to have that conversation with Apple tech support.

Um, hello, only the D E L L keys light up, whats up with that.

ahhhh, yes sir, your fedex box will be arriving in 1.2 hours.

Don't want to rain on anybody's funeral, but is there any proof of this story? I've yet to see a single post anywhere that anyone has actually got a 17 inch PB or that they have been told that it's on the way. My order status with Apple remains the same as it's been for the last nine weeks.

At the moment this story looks like just another rumour. Hope that I'm wrong about this, but...

Just as an update, the news has gotten even better. Several other forum members have received tracking #'s for their 17" PB's. Apple is now officially shipping them to residential customers! The wait begins...

Now we just need the Apple Stores to get them in. I have on on order (on or before 4/4/2003) but I seriously plan to get one at an Apple store before hand.

This would suck because I can't order stuff online, so I've been planning to get one from a store since they were released...I better not get bumped back!

hehe. Well, I'm in the DC Metro area and CT at any given day of the month. So the Apple store I'll be hitting up are the ones in Tysons, Clarendon, and Westfarms. I'm on each of the call lists there as well. I also create my own work schedule, so If I get a phone call from either of them and I'm in that area... I'll probably be the first one there But.... the race is on

The whole thing that really bums me out is that I had initialy ordered the 17" the morning after the Keynote. My original shipping date was on or before 3/21/2003. However, my address in CT changed and I'm now in DC more than not. I had to get the shipping address information changed on my order, but since they already shipped the stupid AppleCare box to me, they could not change the shipping info. I had to cancel the order and start over . Now, my new date is 4/4/2003. I was content with just waiting for the original order, but now I'm hell-bent on getting it before I receive my second order. I did receive my Brenthaven shoulder case. It rocks. I'm gettin pretty itchy for the 17" now...

My Amazon shipping timeframe has changed from 'March 15 release' to 'Shipping in 2-3 days'. The button has also changed from 'place a pre-order' to 'buy now'. This means they have them in fricken stock! It could ship on Monday! Whooo-Hoooo!

I'll call macmall later on. Yesterday they were adamant that it wasn't going to be until the 31st. My Amazon shipping estimate is 'March 13', even though I ordered yesterday (the 14th). Weird. I hope it ships on Monday. That would be '2 days', unless they mean 2 BUSINESS days.

If this is a mistake, I'm going to kill someone.

I'm going to speculate that Amazon is having Apple dropship directly to their customers.

That means your computer could be right next to mine (ordered from Apple) in Taiwan right now waiting to get on a flight. Then off to customs in Alaska, then shipped appropriately (ground, overnight, etc) from there to us.

A FedEx rep I just spoke to on the phone seemed to think that because my computer missed the Saturday cutoff, it might not hop on a flight until Monday (which is really only 24-30 hours from now, since Taiwain is 16 hours in the future from California). Then through customs, divided up and shipped out. She said maybe it could arrive to me by Wednesday.

Maybe that means it won't arrive until March 13, 2004..

No, just kidding! I just ordered one from Amazon too (3/15) and it has estimated shipping AND delivery date 3/14...

They estimating system seems to be screwed up.. Unless of course it really will be 2004

You ain't kiddin'...us pre-orderers have been waiting and waiting and waiting for any tangible evidence whatsoever that a 17" PB may have shipped, this ain't no joke. The first hint was a member saw that his credit card was charged a few days back for his 17" PB, then MacNN posted that Apple had begun shipping actual 17" PBs out to certain store, and now today, officially, residential customers have their PBs on the way.

This ain't a rumor, no more speculation, just counting down the minutes 'til it arrives!

POST PIX AND INITIAL THOUGHTS!!!!

Don't be like my buddies who were the first on the block to get the ATARI 2600 and wouldn't let us play until they mastered all the games so they could kick our butts.....

Play fair with your MAC friends....
