thanks for helping me out. i know that other threads about this topic are available. i was just wondering if you could give me a quick indication of the MiniDV camera YOU are using with the Mac and if you feel that it works well.
some i have been considering are the:
Canon GL2
Sony DCR-TRV80
Panasonic PV-DV953
i imagine there isn't much wrong with the GL2, especially now that you can purchase one for under 2K on the web with the $250.00 manufacturers rebate.
i just wanted the expert opinion of this fine forum
thanks in advance
greg

I have 3 different Canon miniDV camcorders, GL1, Elura 20 and Ultura.
All have worked w/o a hitch with iMovie and Final Cut Pro.

Have a Canon MV30i ( US - Optura i Think ) has worked for me faultlessly, in any application I have put it to. ( Even -17 degrees C ) It is great with iMovie & Final Cut express.
You won't go wrong with any Canon Camera. Heck even Apple uses them in most of thier advertising.
Canon is a leader in the DV field and thier Optical Image Stabilizer is the best in this catagory bar none.
Happy Shopping.

Using the Sony TRV33 for a carry around and it interfaces without flaw. The picture is great and image stabilizer is a definite bonus. Upgraded battery lasts forever.
If only it were waterproof....

I just got a Canon Optura 20 (to replace our old JVC GR-DVF21) and so far I'm very pleased with it.
The size, weight and form factor are very good for comfortable shooting and the controls are pretty intuitive.
It fired right up in iMovie 3 with the Firewire connection. So far everything has just worked, without any diddling with settings, etc.
The only problem I've heard of with this camera is motor noise, and I could hear it faintly in a quiet tape, but I didn't think it was objectionable. It is a lot quieter than the JVC, though that was a 4 yr old camera.

Canon Optura Pi and ZR60 have both work flawlessly for me with FCP3 and iMovie.
