hello,

I'd like to buy a 20-inch cinema display to hook up to my powerbook. I'd most likely use the laptop in closed mode. my question is if the cinema display would cause the powerbook to heat up significantly due to the graphics card powering the bigger display?

I like the silence of my powerbook. I haven't heard the fans come on once since I got the PB 1 1/2 years ago and I'd like to it stay that way.

thanks for your input.

Its not so much the extra strain on the GPU, but having the lid closed which casues them to run hotter. These 'books are designed to lose heat through their keyboards. Can't promise the fan won't be needed, but the 17" has a larger enclosure and bigger surface area than the 15", so of the two, you have the cooler one.

Not that this answers your question but I suggest a Dell monitor, it has a newer and more up to date panel in it (generally just a newer model of the samsung panels that apple is using), comes with a warranty, and costs less.
