It seems to me that the numbers for how many songs people have are a little bloated because of multiple songs from one artist's CD. So, I think the number of artists you have would be a little bit more interesting.

For all you who aren't sure how to find the number of artists easily, just make sure iTunes is set to organize your music folder, then go to your home folder>Music>iTunes>iTunes Music, and at the bottom of the window it should say how many different folders there are (and there should be one folder per artist).

Edit: An easier way to find this out is to click Browse and the numbers are listed at the top of each section in parentheses.

I have 182 artists in my library using the folder method, and 198 using the Browse method.

Is there a way to count artists other than manually doing it?

It should be listed in parentheses next to "All" in the Artist field.

Mine: 1285 Artists, 795 Albums, 9270 songs

I have a lot of compilation albums.

I'm sure there's a way to find out using the terminal. Or maybe by using shareware such as PodWorks (the best one IMO)

Somewhere around 4500 on quick glance, but there are some duplicates in there that aren't easily filtered out.

iTunes 4.7 lets you search just for duplicated tracks.

362, but thats accounting for different spellings of names in ID tags (can you spell Alanis Morissette? so many variations!), and one album I've got thats put track numbers in the artist column (!!!), so its probably between 330 and 350 at a rough guess of the true number.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Huh, I didn't realize that. Anyway, it seems that doing it this way changes my numbers.

I now have 198 artists and 170 albums.

I have a question for you, and everyone with that much music.
While it is awesome to collect music and watch your library grow, have you actually heard most of the music in your library? I would say I've listened to and like a good 90% of my 2500 songs, but there is some crap in there I need to get rid of. If you have listened to all that music, that is awesome but I don't see a point in just getting music you don't like or will never listen to.

Well I probably have heard all the songs in my library but a lot of them are listened to like once every few months or years .

Duplicate Artists (ie Siouxsie & the Banshees vs. Siouxsie And The Banshees) I was talking about; I didn't use iTunes, I used MP3 Rage because I don't keep everything in my iTunes Library, it slows everything down.

Yes, I only keep the stuff I like, with a couple of exceptions for mixed compilations other people have made, I'd rather keep it all as they intended even if I don't listen to every track.

I love music, so I have a lot of it, whether records, CDs, or MP3s. I keep finding more cool stuff I like, so I keep it. The more the merrier!

Not if you manually manage your songs on your iPod, in-fact loads of features don't work then.

only 5609. i'll delete tracks i don't like, even if it breaks up a complete album. hence the strange artist/track ratio.

499 artists, 336 albums, 3522 songs

Roughly 7 songs per artist. Many albums are compliations. I have one artist with 320 songs, and several are one-offs: only one song by that artist in the Library. Most are somewhere in between.
