i've just moved to mail (after years w/yahoo);
so far, so good, but...
is there a shortcut to removing mail from the server?

right now, it's

open prefs, go to accounts, go to advanced, then click "remove".

any trick i am missing (or, not a trick, but a logical procedure?? )

thanx

go to mail preferences > accounts > select your account > go to the advanced tab.

check the 'remove copy from the server after retrieving a message'

there are more options to tweak. you can have them removed right away when mail.app retrieves them or at certain time periods.

No, he's describing how to make it automatic - which amounts to the same thing as a script.

missing the point.
i want to control when i delete mail from the server...

different schedules, for when i'm home, when i'm away.

i wanted to hit a key-combo, or click a script, to do this.

anyone else...?

cmd-K erases deleted messages on my mac, but not on the server (POP account...)
still have to go into prefs to do this.

seems like there should be a shortcut to this, but will automate it for now (weekly);
just a lot to sort thru when i'm online elsewhere!

thanks anyway...

I noticed today that the option to remove a message from the server when "moved from Inbox" no longer works for me -- I check my mail account on verizon with their web interface and after I remove a message using Mail (which is the same thing as moving an item to the trash folder I believe) the message is still on the server. Even if I empty the trash, the item is still resident on the server.

If I change the option to delete immediately when Mail picks up the message, this option works -- using the web interface to check the server shows that the message is gone after Mail has picked it up.

Any hints on how to get the right behavior? If I remember correctly, the option to delete from server as a consequence of moving from the Inbox DID work correctly not too long ago. I did acquire a new machine recently and used the upgrade wizard to copy my personal files over to the new machine. Perhaps this might be a factor.

Glad to hear any advice.
