Hey everybody.

I have been sent some HDV footage that I would like to edit. The video was imported on a PC using Adobe Premier Pro CS3, and is in the format of an MPG. The file won't play in Quicktime (it opens, but just plays a black screen) but opens and plays (and looks) great in VLC.

I couldn't get iMovie or Final Cut Pro (5) to import the original footage, so using VLC I converted the footage to mpeg4.

Luckily, this now imports into both iMovie and FCP, but the footage gets squeezed horizontally and black bars are added on either side where the footage should be.

Ideally, I would like to import the original footage and have it work so there is the least amount of quality lost. Anyone have any ideas?

-Chris

If I buy this, iMovie and Final Cut will be able to import and edit the file? Or will it just give QT the ability to playback the file. (I don't have QT Pro)

I purchased the software, but Quicktime still doesn't play the files. This is so frustrating!

What is werid is that when I get info on the file in Finder, it says that the file is Mpeg-1, but VLC says that it is Mpeg-2.

When importing the file into FCP and after rendering, it just shows a blank screen (colored), with no audio.

Anyone have any clue?

Open the file in gspot on a Windows box to see what codecs are being used.

Try rendering it. Sequence >Render Selection> Both or something similar.

I did. (try rendering it, see previous post).

I will try opening it on a Windows PC with GSpot and see what Codec it is using. I remember seeing something about it using the mpgv codec. I'll check again
